I renewed with Admiral a few weeks back and now, with one year's no claims, I am paying exactly what I paid last year. Sounds like things might get even worse.

The insurance companies need to sort this big mess out. If this carry on like this then they won't have anybody left to insure and the the government will get they want. However in reality the econemy would just get worse.

I think the law needs to change to to put a stop to the ambulance chasers putting insurance up for us all.

I also think the injury thing has gone way out of hand, if you drive or travel in a car there is risk involved. We cannot insure against all risks of life.

At the risk of boring everyone to tears we've ended up as with so many things with a situation we deserve, not us here but overall.

So long as insurance companies ponce about paying dodgy claims instead of taking fraudsters on and pursuing them for the very shirt off their backs it will continue, whilst they pay out ridiculous car hire costs etc willy nilly it will continue.

So long as the courts fail to punish fraudsters severely it will continue.

In a way you can understand those who milk the system for claims, they've had fine examples to learn from with our leaders and their expenses and the very rich legally fiddling and offshoring their taxes, monkey see monkey do.

Lack of honour and backbone replaced by sheer greed.

Prime example, just watched this weeks episode of HIGNFY, Ian Hislop mentioned blair is giving an after dinner speech to some bog roll manufacturers conference to the tune of £50k....is there nothing they won't do, get that snout deep in there's a good chap.

Likewise, for the last 20.

When I was 17, my Allegro 1.1 cost £250 to insure TPFT. Now at 38, my Escort 1.8 costs £253.11 TPFT.

I'ved had 30-odd cars over the years, all between 1.0 and 2.0 litres; I insured them either fully comp and TPFT according to whether they needed a windscreen that year, always for over £200 and under £280 per year.

My classic policy with Footman James actually went down, and they don't do no claims and I also had to tell them about the accident in the other car, so I'm well chuffed!

Interestingly my insurance also came down when I renewed on my '04 330Ci last month.
£302 fully comp with legal cover, sensible excess and limited mileage.
Living in rural N Yorks, being an IAM member, and getting old does have its advantages.

I've always had a figure in mind for a "reasonable" insurance premium - about £700pa - so I'm always pleasantly surprised when it's less than half that. I shan't protest too much if this year's £253 premium goes up to £300-odd next year...
