 Coppers - Fullchat
Channel 4 + 1 now.

Traffic Cops without the polish.
 Coppers - RattleandSmoke
Watching it, quite impressed because it dosn't have all the stupid music and dosn't keep going to different things every 5 minutes as if the viewer had the attention span of an 8 year old.
 Coppers - R.P.
Up until the bit they started talking about the fatals I was a little bit doubtful that it wasn't a spoof. As implied warts and all but not ground-breaking like Graf's stuff.

I am actually still thinking it might be a spoof or they are just bickering for the camera. All seems a bit too much stereotypical of how the public imagine coppers though.
 Coppers - RattleandSmoke
OK it clearly isn't a spoof :(
 Coppers - MD
OO you callin' a spoof mate?
 Coppers - RattleandSmoke
Nobody it just started off quite amusing the way those cops were bickering. It wouldn't be the first time C4 has made spoof documenteries which seem real at first. Clearly it is genuine though. It is actually very moving and quite powerful.

 Coppers - Manatee
Missed it, but it's repeated on C4 at 0130 Friday, and C4+1 at 0230, so I'll record it.
 Coppers - Bellboy
i watched the good life update
more spiffing for those of a certain age
especially when youve been in leifs position and have a criminal record for not rolling over

It is also already available to watch on the C4 website:

What's your verdict, FC?

I thought it was accurate from my point of view and the banter/humour aspect, just like in my job. Only critisism though, I thought the bit in the hospital, laughing and joking, would have been more professional if they had taken that outside. They appeared to be in earshot of people in the casualty ward.
Otherwise, a good programme.
 Coppers - Fullchat
Very realistic. The banter and mentality was spot on, clearly the main players were selected as being 'characters'.

Perhaps the banter in the ward was in an inappropriate location but at least it was real.

No sexed up commentary like, 'The finest high speed pursuit drivers.' No smart comments at the expense of those dealt with.

Opportunity for the PC brigade to have a stab at the dialogue after the guy was stopped an VDR'd for the over tinted windows.

Refreshingly real in this day of back to back Police programmes and some footage which would normally be edited out making it more impactive.

Is that because they're too busy plumbing?

I'll get me coat.
 Coppers - Dog
I watched the prog while I was on the floor stretching my back (!), I thought they came over as a pair of pillocks.
 Coppers - Redviper
Really good programme, my partner and I really enjoyed it.

I agreed with most things that where said by the officers espcially the officers who was knocked off his bike.. about drink driving.

And the one who arrested the bloke for driving whilst banned , but what is the use of another ban its not going to deter him.

I seethed at the posh bloke who was arrested for drink driving how rude and arrogant was he just becasue he has a silver spoon in his mouth.

I know what you mean, but I was actually quite amused by it.

Basically, he did seem to be a bit privileged, and is probably used to getting his own way.

What I find amusing is when people who perhaps have a bit of influence in their day to day lives, are suddenly stripped of it and put in a powerless position, and then try to bluster their way through, especially if they have just a little bit of knowledge about the law. Then, if you can throw in some alcohol for good measure, all the better. Nothing better than seeing a drunk person, desperately trying to put forward a rational argument.

Nothing to specifically do with being posh, just being the sort of person who is used to getting their own way.

He seemed to be suggesting that he thought he could avoid incriminating himself, but seemingly didn't understand that by not giving a breath sample he was doing just that.

I almost expected him to say that he would be "taking the fifth" - which is what happens if you was too many US cop shows :)

I missed what happened to him (I was in the other room) - did I hear correctly that he was banned for 17 months?

I think he was banned I cant remember but this brought a intresting debate between me any my partner.
If you are innocent until proven guilty, you fail to produce a sample therefore you have not been charged for drink driving is this correct?

If a "suspect" as they say in American cop shows has failed to produce a sample but of course will be charged for this, will he not be charged for Drink driving? becasue there is no proof that collected that he has?
if this is the case what is the penelty is it as severe as being charged for Drink driving, or will you still have Drink Driving conviction?

Can anyone clarify this for me?
 Coppers - Zero
If you are innocent until proven guilty, you fail to produce a sample therefore you
>> have not been charged for drink driving is this correct?

You can be charged with failing to supply a sample which is an absolute black or white offence and you are guilty as soon as you refuse to provide, and the sentence is the same or harsher than any drink driving offence.

The only way out of the charge is to provide proof - ie a test - that you are not over the limit.
 Coppers - Redviper
Thanks

So in theory, if you where caught drink driving but refused to take the test, would you be only charged for failing to provide a sample, or would you be charged for drink driving.

So if the "suspect's" criminal record showed "failing to provide a sample" there is nothing there to say that he has been charged for drink driving" it would be the same as if he wasnt over the limit but still refused to give a sample.

Edit:
Just re-read your post Zero

So if I refused to take the test, I will be charged with drink driving - no matter what.

It breaks down to this,.

You can be charged with unfit through drink driving if you are so legless you cant stand up or in the view of the officer you are unfit.
You can be charged for failing to supply. Failing to supply is looked on, by everyone, judges, insurance companies etc etc as the same as drink driving.

In effect, different name, same offence.
 Coppers - Redviper
Ah i see, thankyou :-)
 Coppers - Skoda
Just finished watching coppers on C4+1.

It had me going for the first 5-10 mins, although initially there were no full shots of the cars i could recognise the camera was mounted on the roof rail of an Octavia estate (smaller wing mirror tells it was a pre facelift TFSI), i kept looking for more Skodas.

I gave up spotting Skodas when i realised it was *only* Skodas on display. They did a car park shot somewhere in the middle of the show and they had more stock than any Skoda dealer i've ever seen.

Skoda probably couldn't buy product placement like that!

Same here - I thought for a minute they were three series but realized the vents were all wrong for a Beemer.

Unbelievable crap they have to put up with. No wonder they hate the public.
 Coppers - Zero
Its like everyting tho isnt it.

For example, ask any AA man what he thinks of *BMW's

Crap he says

Why is that you ask

Because every time I see one its broke.

*substitute BMW for anything you like.

If all you see is poo the world is full of poo.
 Coppers - R.P.
You're right an unrelenting world of poo..

I liked this week's programme, a bit gentler than last week's but still gritty enough to keep my attention.

The larger lady's comment from the back of the police van upon being read her rights should be used all week as the trailer for the show. :)

My mate's retriever would love that.

Hmm, missed it. Catching up on some recorded RAC Rally - sorry Rally GB. Missed the Sunday showing on Dave due to Strictly come x factor out of here on ice idols. House full of women you see.

No Super Special at Cardiff this year. Not even a wiff of it in the sports slot on the news. Only any mention of top 10 drivers. Who would want to throw sponsorship money wt the sport with no coverage?
 Coppers - R.P.
It'll be on Channel 4's play it again or whatever they call it.

Exactly, and what happened to nightly BBC updates? It seems to have been downgraded to the status of a small club event in the eyes of the media, of interest only to the immediate local area where it's held.

At one point the Lombard RAC was the biggest spectator sporting fixture in the UK, with the cars passing almost 2 million spectators over the course of the rally - more than the London Marathon.
 Coppers - R.P.
Followed it in 1981 all the way up to Northumbria....enjoyed it, mind you it's moon seemed to be in the wane even then...
 Coppers - Dave_
One thing I always wanted to do, was tramp around after the rally for its full length - 4 nights sleeping in a mud-encrusted car in various forests has always seemed strangely appealing!

I saw the stages at Clumber Park in '90, Donington in '91, and Resolven, Felindre and Margam in the early '00s. Not sure about the designated safe spectator areas out in the wilds these days, it was much better when common sense was allowed to be used. More than once I've had to duck to avoid a hail of wet muddy stones following the passing-by of a 100mph ton of metal 3 feet away. :)
 Coppers - Iffy
I went to a Welsh forest stage of the RAC many years ago - it was in the days of the Martini-sponsored Stratos.

Exciting for spectators, as Dave says.

Those rally fellas don't have the benefits of acres of gravel trap.

 Coppers - Zero
It all started to fall apart when they banned the group B cars. Insanely fast, snorting animals.

I followed part of one of the "Lombard RAC rally of Great Britain" Think we took in Grizedale, Clumber, Margam

ANd then they shortened it, and the night stages disappeared. (cars would go into Killer Kielder or Grizzly Grizedale and never come out again - huge stages)

There are few major teams in any more, its a few hundred miles. NO chance for any drama or tension to build up.

Its the same story with BTTC, and WTC. A mere shadow of themselves.

MY motorsport memories are of 80s BTTC, and Rac rally - Carlos Sainz throwing his helmet through the back of his Toyota window, as his championship bled away in the oil and steam that poured from his car, Navigator Moya openly weeping on the side of the road.

 Coppers - bathtub tom
This lot can put on quite a show: www.slowlysideways-gb.co.uk/

I saw them at Silverstone's classic this year. Total nutters! ;>)
 Coppers - Dave_
>> motorsport memories are of 80s BTTC, and Rac rally

Same, but the 90s. I collected a bit of smashed plastic headlight lens, pointy end first, in the fabric of my umbrella when Paul Radisich T-boned Patrick Watts' Peugeot 405 on the pit straight at Brands at 150mph. Watched Tarquini barrel-roll his Alfa 156 at Copse. Had a perfect view of Mansell destroying his Mondeo under Starkey's Bridge at Donington during a guest appearance.

The Willhire 24 hour race at Snetterton was another favourite, car parking was allowed all around the circuit so I bagged a perfect space atop an embankment at Russell Curve. Spent the entire night sitting on the roof of my MkII Cavalier, feet on the wipers, watching Sierra Cosworths, Capris and even a Polo roaring into the start/finish straight. If memory serves, the Polo pitted at one point for the driver to change his CD.
