To pull or not to pull, that is the question...? - Runfer D'Hills
Why does printer ink always run out when you've got an urgent job on ? Why doesn't anyone else in the house mention that there's none left ? Why is it that when you nip out to get some the only stuff that's available locally is the branded version which costs you £40 odd for two blinking catridges...

Anyway, that's nothing to do with this post. It was just the reason why I had to go out. So I get back to the car and spy a screw head sticking out of my front tyre. The dilemma begins. Do I pull it out now before it does any more damage ? Or do I drive slowly to a tyre depot and then pull it out on their forecourt. Maybe I should just drive home, finish my printing job and then pull it out... Of course I've left my phone on charge in the house so no doubt there are several voicemails from those whose lives and needs are far more important than mine and why haven't I replied to the email they sent 2 minutes ago ? What if the sodding tyre goes down before I get home ? I've no phone and where the heck did I put that locking wheelnut gizmo ?

So, decision made. Drive home and hope it doesn't go down. Get home. Start fiddling with the printer while listening to the voicemails and reading the petulant emails. Decide that's boring and go outside armed with pliers and a Marlboro for comfort. Raining now of course and I've got on my new pair of natural buckskin unfeasably valuable boots.

Well here goes nothing, pull the screw out of the tread block. It's about 7mm long. Tread on the tyre is about 6mm. Nothing's happened yet...

Bet it's flat in the morning...

:-(

Stands good chance of not penetrating the carcass.

I always carry in my bag intheboot 1 can Holts Tyre Weld. Some people sneer at this product and I have to confess in all the time its been available have had no occasion to use it on the car but I have a schrader/Presta converter and with this I take the can with me on the bicycle. Has saved the day on many occasion when out with the club. I can recall one disastrous bank holiday w/end touring in Somerset where the local authority had decided to tar and regrit every lane we rode over. As a group we collected double figure punctures
ran out of solution and patches, but Holts saved the days. was empty can at the end.
Has a disadvantage inasmuch as the tube once filled with the gunk is no longer really usable as the valves clog up with the gunk.

Happy days long gone but still remembered. Never raining in the photos in the albums tho only took pics when sun shining.:-))

Cheer up, it'll only be flat at the bottom.

If you squirt some of that stuff into a car tyre is it then "fixed" or do you then have to go to get it properly fettled ? Thought I heard ( might be wrong of course ) that if you use the gunk you've trashed the tyre ?

In my experience the tyre fitter will make damn sure the tyre is trashed rather than spend ages cleaning it out.

Nr 1 Son used it on the car he had at Uni , tyre did not deflate for the next two years.

Oh, ok, might buy a can then just in case. Won't use it unless I have to though. Thanks !

If it's a properly managed fleet car, call their tyre line. They might send someone to your house to sort it for you.

What dilemma?

Put some spit on it. Wiggle the screw. If there're bubbles, leave it in. If not, pull it out.

You can still apply some spit to the screw hole to see whether or not there's any leakage.

Oi you lot. No laughing. No smutty comments.

Vendors should be legally obliged to clearly display the cost of consumables right next to the cost of the printer. I buy a printer every six months or so and find the whole process makes me want to bang heads together.

Can't help you with your though screw Humph. If it's happy there, leave it?

Very nearly wrote a coherent sentence there didn't I...

It's out already and so far the tyre is still ok.
