I prefer the inside of my car to be spotlessly clean and I can't understand those who prefer to sit in filth. Some people can't even be bothered to throw their litter out of the window!

I have a problem with litter in my present company car. It is fitted with some sort of ambient lighting. This means that the sweet wrappers and empty crisp packets in the cubby hole in the dashboard as well as in the door pockets are stylishly highlighted at night with a tasteful red glow. So I just chuck them behind the driver's seat.

That raised a smile here - my car could do with a clear-out.

I can't get the stiletto marks off the roof liner.

SWMBO swore she'd given up chocolate.

So why did my fingers smell of it after I'd changed gear?

Ignore any other finger/odour combinations. ;>)

I've been road testing a new Vitara variant for a few years.

It's called the Suzuki Skip.
The front seats have lots of room underneath for rubbish !

Now I am ageing and less flexible I find it more and more difficult to get at the specks of dust under the seats of both the Prelude and the Beast.

Worst smell i've ever encountered in a car was in the boot of an '85 Audi 80 (nice car). Parts of horse hoof (farrier visit), left to fester for a couple of months.

Lol.... Yes me too...................

But looking in many cars the CAT is the cleaner animal & some humans need a good clean themselves!

Many years ago I borrowed my brother's Austin 1100 (remember them?), and when I got in a fag packet fell out of the driver's door - no, not the door pocket, the door. The whole car was knee deep in fag packets - had to clear the floor to depress clutch. I said it was dangerous and he replied that it wasn't - press the clutch hard enough and the fag packets crushed and you could change gear!! Brakes? accellerator? I had to have a clear-out!
Recently I picked up a Jag X type estate and the lady had to empty it of her possessions - took her 20 minutes. I pointed out that there were still some coins in the cupholder (about £2 -£3 worth). "Yes", she said, "but I can't get them out". I tried but some strange gluey matter had stuck them in! Not to mention the dog hair throughout and the dogsnot(?) covering every window. "It's a lovely car" she said "someone's going to get a real bargain" Did I mention the dents, scratches and scrapes on every panel? (after 3 years old and 25k miles)

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but my ex-partner had a Saxo whose interior resembled a dust-cart; on one occasion I happened to be driving, opened the ashtray to stub a fag out, and was reprimanded for doing so.

On asking why it was a problem, my ex insisted that if the ashtray hadn't been used, the car was worth more!

Not even a sweetie wrapper in mine. I more or less live in my car so the inside of it is kept as clean as it can reasonably be kept and the outside gets done pretty much weekly. Most people wouldn't sit in a room full of their own festering rubbish would they, or turn up to work or a meeting in dirty clothes.

My wife conversely can spot a spec of dust at 20 paces inside the house and simply can't not clean it up immediately but as for her car...brings a whole new meaning to the term "wheely bin"...
 In car litter. - Iffy
...but as for her car...

I know from my time in the trade that some people have filthy cars and immaculate houses.

Never saw it the other way around.

Not me!, I usually turf out at least one carrier bag of crud out of my Vectra when I can be bothered to 'valet' it, although I did have a word with Spamette minor when I found a half eaten Ginsters steak slice shoved in the pocket on the back of the driving seat, nicely matured. At least I usually turf out a few 20p coins for the parking fund in the process.

That's a tough one - did you tick her off for eating half of it, or for leaving half of it?

She generally eats fairly healthily, so I don't moan about the odd guilty pleasure...but not composted in my car for weeks ;-)

At least she didn't fling it out of the window and slap an unwary motorcyclist in the kisser.

One of my (30-y-o) daughters thought it was perfectly acceptable to leave a banana skin on the floor in my car.

She reckoned SWMBO and I hadn't talked to her like that for over twenty years. ;>)

Well, to illustrate a point, on Sunday I nicked the old Mondeo estate which my wife currently uses because it has a bike rack on its roof. As mentioned elsewhere on this occasion I took my son and one of his mates to a very muddy forest on our bikes. The inside of the car is now mainly brown and crusty. We were in a hurry so the bikes went on the roof with the equivalent of the spoil from a small archeological dig attached to them. Then it rained, leaving the bodywork with a less than fetching Dali-esque brown sort of melted appearance punctuated by limpet sized clods of rather pungent unidentifiable forest floor material.

She started using it on Monday morning like that and if she's even noticed it hasn't been mentioned.

On the other hand, I had the audacity and oversight to leave a half finished mug of coffee on a shelf in the shower ( doesn't everyone drink coffee in the shower ? It's not that weird is it ? ) and you would think I'd slept with her sister !

Have you ever thought of using a rear mounted rack?
it would be easier to load the bikes onto, rather than having to lift them up onto the roof.....
 In car litter. - R.P.
Or even better a tow bar mounted one - just so happens.....
In car litter. - Runfer D'Hills
Any rear mounted rack ( while of course being a jolly sensible and practical alternative naturally and indeed often available relatively cheaply if you know where to look ) has a basic drawback. Part of the cycling experience is the ability to perch on the opened loadbay under the shelter of the raised tailgate after the bike ride to have the picnic. The picnic experience is severely marred by the intrusve presence of the rear mounted rack which would either have to be removed in the case of the clip or strap on variety or would bark the shins in the case of the towbar mounted alternative. All very well for those who only use them occasionally but for regular use the roof solution is really the only way forward.

But thanks for the suggestion. It might well pay to have one as backup.

You haven't, of course?

No, of course not but I gather that makes me part of quite an exclusive club round these parts....

No, but I think he'd like to.

Or perhaps that was someone else on here, I can't remember.

Just trying to remember the floor of my Bentley. No transmission tunnel, just a slightly arched profile.

Bottles rolling about... can be a bit of a nuisance if they roll under the pedals. I seem to remember.

But enough of this.

For some unfathomable reason many years ago I was driving a car with a loose puppy aboard (having escaped from the box it was in) - at one point the puppy managed to get under the brake pedal, now that was an exciting moment...!

Surely that can't be tyre squeal? I'll just press a bit harder and see if it makes a difference...

Ah, motoring livestock, Rob.
Years ago I used to service a Fiesta shed for a lad....his dad paid the bills.
It was a total rubbish tip inside and out.
I decided to clear it out and give it a wash. There were used orange juice cartons, amongst other foul things, in the boot. There was also a split bag of some sort of grain.

Enjoying all this hospitality was a fairly large colony of ants !

Doing a job on one of my cars once, I noticed a large snail hibernating inside the front bumper. Must have been one hell of a trek to get there...up the back of the wheel, along the track control arm and down the chassis. Seemed a bit mean to move it....so I didn't !

Old joke, rodeo style.

Someone else will explain it!

"doesn't everyone drink coffee in the shower ?"

The first thing I do when I arrive at the hotel in some sunny climate, is take a cold tinny out of the mini bar and drink it while I'm in the shower. It signifies the real start of the holiday.
