 Driving on snow in an automatic - movilogo
This will be my first winter in automatic car. What will be specific advice for auto?

Of course I understand the basic rules still hold - e.g. driving as if there is no brake, don't drive uness you have to etc.

My car (Kia Ceed) is a conventional torque converter auto and there is no winter mode. Just P R N D 3 2 1 modes.

Should I keep the selector in "2" mode?

PS: I have Pirelli tyres (not winter tyre)

Can't hurt Movi but by and large just drive as normal but pretend there's an egg taped on top of each of your pedals which you mustn't crack and a glass of wine balanced on your bonnet which you mustn't spill. Now drive how you like...

I had a supermarket near to my home. Last year I watched quite a good number of cars revving wheels and not going anywhere :o)

Getting out of ungritted cul-de-sac and joining the main road is half the battle.

But seriously - it may have a snow mode. Ignore it and keep it in sport.

Excellent advice from Hump for any vehicle in extremely slippery conditions.

RWD auto driver's sometimes had to be prepared to slip the box into neutral as they came to a stop to overcome any possible creep from the back wheels overcoming the very light rear braking pressure, but that shouldn't be a problem with FWD.

Maybe get a set of snowsox/autosocks etc. Even FWD manuals sit in near flat snowy car parks in first gear at idle with the tyres spinning. No names no pack drill. ;>(
