Because you have a company car, then this could get complex tax wise. I would have thought you cannot claim anywhere near 40p per mile. I personally would tell the employer to pay for a hire car (or van?) that is big enough. They need you to go somewhere with equipment that won't fit in the car they provide.
What would they expect you to do if you didn't have the Mondeo. And sods law says something could go wrong etc.
I haven't even thought about insurance implications for using your car for business. There might also be an age/mileage limit on cars that can be used for company business - there is with my employer. With all the new laws around corporate manslaughter and similar, they encourage more people to take company cars again with us. Or so it seems.
