EV Battery Cut 'n Shut - Zero
Background, EV6 had accident damage to battery pack (kerbing, grounding, FOD who knows)
Clearly insurance write off, bought, bodged, sent back to auction.

This is the autopsy, warning a long vid (hour) but a good watch.

have randomly on FB started to get reels from a guy down south, (foreign accent maybe Spanish / Italian?) who specialises in EV battery repairs etc and often has videos of write offs due to to a battery pack being pierced.
Of course can't find him now when I want to!

and now I click on your link on my phone and I see its the same guy!

First one I have seen of a back street bodge.

Why be surprised.

Cut and shut has probably existed ever since the first Roman trashed his chariot.

Sometimes repairs may be professionally and sensibly undertaken by those with skill operating without normal commercial everheads. Sometimes the job will be inadequate and dangerous.

No different to recon engines which were commonplace in the day when a new engine may last less than 60k. The buyer had to take on trust that the components claimed to be replaced actually had been, and limited comeback if the recon unit failed in a couple of '000 miles.

In the late 70's early 80's we lived next down to a chap who had a small repair business in Ripple Road, Barking (I mention the location as I'm aware several on here would have been fairly local). He always had a cut n' shut on the go. More often than not, a Ford and usually a Fiesta. There's not much to a Fiesta once it's down to the shell. Cut along the floor pan under the front seats and cut at the top of the A pillars. He must have been fairly confident in his work as his wife was usually running round in one with two young children in the back.

A dodgy recon A series engine tended not to spontaeneously combust and burn you are your family to a crisp.

As best as I can establish the risk of an EV fire is lower than either petrol or diesel. Can't find data on deaths in EV fires. Most battery firen are caused by non-compliant or faulty batteries bought on the cheap in bikes and scooters.

Some perish in car fires after an accident making escape xdifficult. Otherwise I would guess most have the sense to stop and retire to a safe distance when the car slows and/or they smell burning.

A legitimate point - battery fires are more diffucult to extinguish and burn at a much higher temperature.

Otherwise predictable anti-EV rhetoric from one who is unconcened by the facts but doesn't like electric. Up to a point I can undertsand this - the burble of a V8 is hard to replicate in an EV without audio sound effects.

We were specifically talking about a cut'n shut battery. The risk of that combusting is high.

Had to skip a lot.....so many of these videos have been padded out from 20mins to over an hour. Lost count of the times he said 'shocking'! Are all EVs so amazingly vulnerable to damage to the cooling system?

Ogs special Ev repair in London . This’ll put you off EVs for life
EV Battery Cut 'n Shut - Bobby
of course algorithms now show me loads of videos with EVs with pierced car batteries and I am thinking, in all my years of driving I dont think I have ever experienced anything which damaged the underside of the car.
Of course if I get an EV you can guarantee I will break that record! Manage to get my car stuck on a rock, a very sharp rock!

Had three in my driving time. Worse was a builders fork that fell off the back of a tarmaccing lorry. Pierced the floor pan, with a sharp pointed hole in the passenger footwell.

Something very much along those lines.

For the ultimate cut 'n shut, you can't beat Russia's Arthur Tussik.

Quite amazing work! My sisters 'boy' had a body shop in sowf lunden back in the day.

He rebuilt write orfs just like that + many classic cars = ££££s

I bought a Toyota Supra from him. I was cruising down the A20 at 120 MPH one day and part of the bodywork flew orf!

Any possibility of damage if an EV bottoms on a big speed-bump or a hump bridge ?
EV Battery Cut 'n Shut - CGNorwich
Yes there is a possibility if you over speed bumps at ridiculous speeds but the answer of course not to drive like an idiot.

Did it in Spain a couple of weeks ago. Forgot the MX-5 was fully loaded and very low, pulled off the side of the road and beached it. There was no give at at so I knew I'd clonked something solid. I had been going very slowly so it came off backwards.

Just had the annual service and they have sent me the pictures. The only 'damage' is the scraping off of some protective wax that I had put on 9 years ago, and the black paint that was underneath it. Lucky escape, it was sitting on the silencer at one point but that seems to have survived as well.

I do think the car industry is in a real mess and Europe seems to have handed it to the Chinese. Whether they will solve the repairability issues with the EV's especially the Temu ones is just another problem for motorists.

Glad I'm not looking to replace a car just now.

I suppose cars are becoming more like white goods these days, throw away and relace rather than re[air.

I doubt there will be many "classic" EV car shows in 25 years time...
EV Battery Cut 'n Shut - CGNorwich
If the choice was between a car that would definitely last 12 years with virtually no servicing and was highly unlikely to break down during its life and a car that needed regular servicing and was rather prone to breakdowns and needed regular repairs but would theoretically last 20 years if looked after what would you choose?

By the way I’m not suggesting that EVs currently fit in the first category
