 Running Costs - mcb100
Been in France for the past 10 days so hadn’t paid much attention to UK diesel prices, but now home and having to refuel two diesel cars….
So I got out my calculator and realised that my diesel at 60mpg and 199.5 pence per litre is now more expensive on a pence per mile basis than an EV averaging a reasonable 4 miles per kW/h and using public charging at 59p per kW/h.
The taxi driver that did our airport drop off and pick up in his Škoda EV will be smiling all the way to the bank being able to charge at home.

Yep hard not be smug at the moment, being an EV owner, who only home charges. Except everything you consume moves by diesel power. So there is that.

Filled up in Almansa yesterday…petrol €1.679, diesel €1.799 @ Ballenoil. Plenoil other side of the roundabout was a few cents less.
I’ve been tempted to go EV but my Vitara is only worth £9.5k on a good day so depreciation is low. And I intend to downsize house in 2027 so not ‘investing’ in solar panels and a storage bank.

6k of my 10k annual mileage is in Spain & the 4 B & Bs ( hotels) in which I’ve stayed the past 15 days didn’t have EV charging… they were a little off the beaten track. Range anxiety on 450+ km days, all on minor roads, could seriously spoil my holiday.

But how much cheaper per mile? Is it 1p or 100p less, you've left the most important bit out of your post! ;)
