 Insurance renewal - MGspannerman
My daughter has the same car as me, my old one now replaced, and her insurance is less by a three figure sum. Apparently my age counts more than my blameless experience. Last year there was an unwelcome hike and I ended up with LV on a joint policy for our two cars as the cheapest solution - if £800+ is considered cheap.

This year the renewal came though at £830 for the both of them and I spent some time using the comparison sites to compare and contrast. Having found some interesting differences i contacted LV and suggested that my two quotes, one for each car, were significantly cheaper and yet both were LV. After some to and fro it appears that a couple of replacement windscreens, which i though i didn't have to declare, made a difference. They came down to just over £800 as the best they could do.

I then bashed the comparison sites again, making sure to declare the windscreens properly and came up with two cheaper still quotes, again both LV. So an hour or so on the computer has saved £57.44 and £30 or so against their best price, but the pleasure in doing so is worth so much more! Both vehicles remain insured with LV, this time on separate policies. Where next I wonder.

As you may already know, LV= is now teamed up with Allianz, so we await developments.

Similar.

Insured with LV in Jan 25 when we went down to one car. Premium around £350.

Claim in September 25 for hit/run incident on supermarket car park.

Renewal with LV offerd at c£600.

Meerkat search came up at £350 with....

LV.

Also just received my LV renewal - I've been with them a few years.

£5 cheaper than last year and under £300. Not going to bother looking elsewhere for what may be a small saving at best. Key point with policy is that it allows up to 180 days overseas cover - useful for regular trips to Spain.

Mine is now with Direct Line - a newly qualified 17 yo does scary things to your insurance! Comparison site came up with DL at about £1200, and surprisingly not a black box policy. Their advert says come direct for best price. OK, so I did for a check - same cover £2500! So we are via the comparison...

We used to be with LV but left after they jacked up the premiums. In contrast to their owners, the older cars get, the cheaper they become to insure. This year, I went to Howden (as advertised on Iain Tyrrell's entertaining classic car U-tube) for my elderly uberwagen indulgence, a 2005 A8 W12 sport quattro - £248 for up to 2000 miles per annum. Our nearly 7yr old runabout, Peugeot 2008 130 EAT6 is £230 with Churchill, up to 6000 miles p.a. and my 46yr old TR7 is a mere £98 with Performance Direct for up to 1000 miles (usually only around 500 in recent years). We are fortunate in having had no claims for many years. Only the Pug is still 'depreciating', being the most expensive of the trio at £17k bought new. (The Audi cost me £12k 12yrs ago and my TR7 £4250 in 1981 when I bought it from a Lancashire dentist at 10months old). For the past 6yrs the mileage of all three has been around 8000 p.a.

5 Years with LV for House & Car - renewals are a few days apart.
2025 LV put up premium by a lot on House so moved the house cover to Aviva.

2026 -Renewals came in this week so went to comparison sites.

Aviva was cheaper for house but not hugely

LV was cheaper for car but not hugely on Comparison sites

Winner was direct with LV as the car was less and taking both policies £70 off.

Interesting quote from Aviva on Comparison sites.
Aviva has IIRC 3 x Comprehensive Policies - Not so Comprehensive (no windscreen cover for example) up to their Platinum which is a lot more like a Comprehensive Policy should be in my view.

The Top Aviva Platinum Car Policy was £650+/- on all 3 Comparison Sites.

My house insurance was Direct with Aviva so tried Aviva Direct quote for the car

Roll of the drum

£1174 for the CAR POLICY.
This car quote included a discount if I also renewed my House cover at the same time!

Age does matter in car cover - young & older drivers pay a lot more.

With LV for the car for years. This year, premium £120 over last year. Then I discovered Skoda do specific EV cover. Compared the fine detail and Skoda policy is slightly better or exactly the same on every point. Various EV type extras built in, like cover for the charging cables and free recovery to a charger if you foolishly run out of juice . And £240 less for the premium.

I spoke to LV. "Can't get near that mate, sorry to see you go".

The Skoda insurance is of course underwritten by LV, clearly stated. The documents stem from the same boilerplate text and the contact phone number is three digits different at the end.

Fingers crossed.

I think that's pretty standard from most insurers if the covered car is an EV, and when we changed with LV from ICE to EV mid-policy they made a point of mentioning those things.

The price difference is weird though.

assume the recovery is covered under a breakdown policy rather than your insurance policy?

Dunno. I have Skoda Assist anyway which covers the same thing as well as breakdown etc, UK and Europe, for first three years of the car's life. So I'll have two options in that circumstance, though they'll both be subbing it to the RAC or whatever no doubt.
