This morning I was approaching J12 on the M56 having just crossed the 'new' Mersey bridge, when I saw the front of an HGV rapidly approaching my exhaust pipe. I was in the outer lane of two, slowing for a 90-degree turn onto the half-mile hill down to the motorway. The HGV decided to undertake me on the tight bend and then continue in the outer lane, missing my left headlamp by what felt like inches, but may have been about a foot. It then sped down the hill, running a red light at the bottom before forcing its way into the left lane to join the M56 west (I was heading for the A56, so was in the correct lane all the way through). Of course drivers do that under the M56 bridge all the time.
That incident COULD have been very nasty, as I had no real escape route. So much for Kings of the Road.

I suppose it could. But it will have passed several ANPR cameras, including those on the toll bridge. I wonder who pays for that crossing ?

I have reported an HGV driver in the past.
If you report to the police with dashcam evidence you may be asked to be a witness in court

I have reported bad driving by 999 previously and a few miles up the motorway saw the police had pulled it over (Subaru Impreza)
have also reported others as well by 999 , I usually just start by saying I am travelling on x motorway, seen bad driving by y and just to let you know in case you have a car in the area or are already looking for it.

I watch all these police interceptor type programs and now just go on the assumption that every other vehicle on the road is uninsured, stolen, driven by drugged up and over the alcohol limit!

No idea, and I have no dashcam, as my annual mileage is modest and only little on M'ways. Today I was bringing SWMBO back from laser treatment on one eye, so mine was a local journey of a few miles. The only parts of the HGV I saw were the grille (in the rearview mirror) and the rear end, which left no memorable image. No time really to do more than blast the horn.
And if that wagon had been stolen, it seems rather daft to draw attention to itself ?

Sorry you encountered such a lunatic but one idiot is not really representative of around half a million truck drivers on U.K. roads. By and large their driving tends to be rather better than the average car driver. Their livelihood depends on it.

That’s two contradictory viewpoints.
A reasonable person cannot assess the driving of half a million truck drivers on the actions of a few. Last week I saw a foolish overtake by an ambulance driver but it would be silly to condemn the general driving of all ambulance drivers or any other group come to that . There are good and bad individuals, not groups.

A couple of years back SWMBO and I were driving back to Colchester and following a 7.5 tonner and the driver was all over the place. Name and mobile number for the firm on the back.
Got SWMBO to video it and called the number, Got a very grumpy boss... Told him his driver all over the road and said I'd whatsapp it to him. I wasn't going to call the police but he did say he'd deal with it...

There was a report here of a 40-tonner being stopped for speeding, with the tacho having recorded 156 km/h. I was somewhat shocked that they can reach those speeds.

I've been doing an indicated 70MPH on a dual carriageway and overtaken by an empty, two-tier car transporter!
