While I am happy with the car and also with the perceived fuel consuption, I find it a bit weird.

Filled up this morning, Dashboard readout tells me range of 485 miles. Drove approx 42 miles on country lanes including 16 miles on the A12 coming home and expected range only decreased by 20 miles. The digital speedo also seems to read about 3mph+ when I pass those little light up speed signs with the happy faces and indicated speed at the entrance to villages..

Displayed MPG when I got home was about 62MPG. Can't be anywhere near true..

Will do a brim to brim calculation next time. Have noted mileage today.

yep, the range on fill up is based on your previous tank mpg profile, and will slowly change range based on your current tank useage profile. My beemer does the same. Even seen the range go up!

Yup your speedo is 3mph fast out the factory, failrly typical for most cars, as they are not allowed toi under read. My Beemer is 3mph fast across all speeds from 10mph up to 150

So I set the speed limiter to (speed limit) +5mph.

Zero has summed it up perfectly ORB, all perfectly normal, I often see the range go up.

I believe our cars share the same infotainment unit etc ORB, you may have the consumption set to best rather than average, my Swift ( smaller, lighter etc) is averaging 61mpg but I often see the real time consumption hit 80mpg.

My old Suzuki Swift Sport would say ~44mpg on its computer, but was actually returning 37-38mpg.

Our Honda of the same vintage was accurate to +/-1mpg.

Definitely a manufacturer choice to have its cars lie to you!

I saw that message at one point..

Even my 18-year-old Peugeot does that, despite having what must now be an antiquated dash system. I don't know the length of the 'latest behaviour' which forms the basis of the calculation - may be a few miles or a few minutes. Probably distance.

VW hire car in Madeira.

Left Funchal with range over 200 miles and set off over the island's centre for the opposite coast. Steep mountain roads.

By the summit of the road, maybe ten miles, we were down to 90 and I was suffering a degree of range anxiety.

Descending it was going up again probably as high as 180.

I'm sure it was my Panda that had one of those. It used to drive me up the wall, a piece of useless information that showed 18 miles left going up a steep hill and 90 going back down again. And in this part of the world you are either going up or down the whole journey, very little flat.

Thanks everyone.
Will report back when I next fill up. give or take a theoretical 400+ miles range...

As others have mentioned theoretical range is calculated using car data over the past few 100 miles so if you fill up after a long run after a journey and then drive around town for a few days (or vice versa!) then the range calculation will adjust somewhat. With my Suzuki full hybrid temperature can also be a big influence as the hybrid batteries work better when warmer. Overall mpg figures would be highly inaccurate calculated using the range figure.

With my Swace I've actually found the on board computer mpg figure to be not so far off when I compared a few fill to fill figures.

Yup, same with my Suzuki - slightly annoying at times re speed warning bongs!
