 Addition to 'stable' - Manatee
I currently have 2 cars insured in my name. 20+ years NCD on the Mitsubishi Outlander, and 8 years on the MX-5.

I've just shaken hands on another car and for now I will keep both of the existing ones.

I predict I will get stuffed on the insurance cost because I will not be entitled to any NCD. The 'new' car is 5 years old so not eligible for classic insurance. Is there a way of lumping cars together cost effectively? I can only drive one at a time!

Yes it is another toy. Somewhat sporty, not a convertible, front engine/rear drive, manual gear change, no turbo. If anyone wants to guess, I value driving pleasure and don't care much about horse power. It's not German.

Probably the sort of situation where a good broker would be worthwhile.

Multi Car policies are perhaps where you need to be looking.
 Addition to 'stable' - Andrew-T
Usual problem - although a policy is in your name, the vehicle is the insured item, so you need a policy for each one unless you get one of those multiple versions.

Guess the vehicle is the “car in front “ ??

Some insurers will take your Full NCB and apply it based on your other cars.

As you can only drive one car at a time it can make sense!
 Addition to 'stable' - Bromptonaut
NCB is but one discount insurers can offer. I've never worried over much about it; like weighing up 'cost to change' it's just one component.

Mrs B passed her driving test c1978 but she only drove cars belonging to her parents, her ex and then me. Got a car of her own c1997 when moving kids around after school while the family car was needed for my commute created a need.

Various discounts for experienced driver and new policy meant she paid about the same to insure the family BX as I'd paid previously with full NCB.

Not Lexus:)

Amazingly I have not been stuffed on the premium. £314 which is in the middle of what I pay for the MX-5 and the Outlander, both in lower groups. But I only asked for a mileage limit of 3,000 which is realistic.

Insurance from Darwin "friend of Churchill" (picture of bulldog). Self and spouse. Both of us "have access to other cars" so maybe they do recognise that we can only drive one at a time!

Includes everything except breakdown.

Well I can tell you its not a 1967-70 Toyota 2000GT. You aint that wealthy.

Mazda?

You're right on both deductions. Nor is it a Mazda Cosmo from 1967-72 which the 2000GT reminds me of.

Nor another Mazda RR.

Maybe I should give you a nudge. Wasn't the 2000GT a Toyota collaboration?
 Addition to 'stable' - carmalade
2000 gt was a joint venture with Yamaha. So is it a motor bike?
 Addition to 'stable' - Manatee
Ha ha, no it isn't. Wrong collaborator. Now you'll get it.

Scooby doo of some description? Brz ??

Bingo. I think it will really suit me. It has an old school feel to it. Pretty rare too. Lots that's interesting about it. I could say more but I'd like more time with it before I opine on the basis of about 5 miles experience of it. And get some better tyres on it.

I was always amused by that slogan. By analogy it could also mean that The Car Behind is an ATOYOT ! Amusing that all the letters are reversible !

The moment of truth tomorrow, picking up the almost 5 years old Subaru BRZ SE Lux.

It has 24,000 miles and has clearly been a mollycoddled weekend car. I've had new front discs and set of tyres put on. It's had a Subaru dealer service. The tyres were the original, half worn, Michelin Primacy HP, dated late 2019. Probably 4mm of tread, but they have gone hard so Goodyear Eagle F1 are going on tomorrow, I want it to have the sort of handling the MX-5 has. The story goes that the GT86/BRZ designer wanted "Prius tyres" for the car so it wouldn't have too much grip and would oversteer more easily!

There's more elbow room than in the MX-5, a glovebox and small door bins for a start, even a pair of leprechaun seats in the back, and a reasonable amount of luggage room with the back seats folded flat. I'm hoping for a slightly more "Grand Touring" experience and the plan is to take it to Spain for a couple of weeks this year. We'll try and fit in a few days in Northern England this month or next to get used to it.

Enjoy!

I take it it's a manual?

What colour is it??

I'm on my 3rd boxer - a 'full' hybrid :)

I like Subarus, I like the way they drive - y'all don't see many about down 'ere.

Yes

Magnetite (a darker grey metallic than the one in your review)

Still counting down, the tyre place is next door to the dealer and it's booked in for 12 for the new tyres (which I have paid for). Then it should be good to go.

Sadly it's raining!

Pity it's not that lovely blue colour with gold wheels :)

Those look very nice, but being a shy retiring type I am happy to fly below the radar with Doom Grey.

And I'll stick with silver as it matches my hair and beard.

hope you enjoy touring Spain half as much as i do.
The only downside is the cost , when travelling solo, of BF to Santander or Bilbao. I’m flexible with dates, book crossings in advance to get the early booking discount, and save money by evening sailings, giving me all day to drive 300+ miles South and not need a B & B beforehand.

The North coast, Asturias & Cantabria, plus the Picos, are glorious places.
I’m sailing home 25 June, returning to Santander 27 September for another 6 or 7 weeks.

Thank you.

I'm fairly new to Spain but we went from Santander via the Picos to Amarante (Portugal) last year.

Later this year we have booked to via Santander to go to the Costa Brava. We'll go there and back in 3/4 legs each way, with 2 night stays except for 3 at the Parador d'Aigua Blava which looks to be the easternmost point of mainland Spain and is said to be super scenic.

I'm getting to know this car now, and my assumption that it would be at least a bit more luxurious than the MX-5 was slightly mistaken!

I like everything about it except the noise. It really is very noisy at 60mph +. Apparently it will respond very well to the addition of some sound deadening materials in the boot, mainly, so I have sent off for some. I have also discovered that it has a noise generator behind the dash to make amplified or synthetic engine noise in the cabin!!! This is apparently easy to disconnect.

Modern life eh. Somebody will tell me I should have gone electric if I want a quiet life.

Progress. The addition of a space saver to the wheel well, formerly wasted space occupied by a giant lump of expanded polystyrene, had already reduced noise a bit.

I have now had all the boot trim out and added Silent Coat sound deadening material to all the 'drummy' bits. I also have some 'Dodo Mat" 3mm closed cell foam which it is advised to stick all over the inside of the boot. This would be the fiddliest carpet fitting job ever and would undoubtedly look a mess.

The idea is that the Silent Coat stops the resonance, and the Dodo Mat absorbs sound coming from outside the boot.

I was exhausted by this time (I'm not limber or small enough to get in the boot so I have to reach in) and I had a labour saving brain wave. I have stuck Dodo Mat to the underside of the deck board.

It's much quieter. I still have the option of more dodo matting, and I have enough material left to do the doors. But I'm pretty happy with where I've got it to.

I can't find the noise generator but the whole thing is so much quieter that I might forget about that.

The new tyres are just right. Phenomenally grippy and sharper steering. Ready for a tour I think.
