One of the keys for the Venga was getting very Tatty and the buttons not always working. Key worked fine manually and cat started but I still like the remote functions.
£400 at Lia but a mate said to try one in Peterborough via Ebay
So £25.00 later plus my tracked postage to him one fully functioning Kia Key.

We had a problem with Berlingo #2 where the remote packed in. Already down to one key as the other was dropped down a street gulley.
Took it to an outfit in Milton Keynes who provided a fully functioning key just like new. Not cheap as yours but a helluva lot less than the dealer wanted.

Buttons failed on a son's RAV4 and Lexus IS remotes, admittedly a good few years ago
Ebay- he bought a new shell.
Worked both occasions - on both occasions the cost about £5 inc a new battery

In the Kia's and hyundai's the chip is embedded in the plastic shell and the video shows how to remove it.
I'm not that confident so the £25 was worth it fir me. Plus the original blade was used so no risk of a badly cut key..

Recovering the hidden chip before disposal is the secret :)

My X type Jaguar requires two "original " keys if any more keys need coding.
I can activate a further key without using a dealer.
I think "Original" means not copied.
I suspect some of these key places just copy the one you offer them.
i am not sure what other car brand require.
My key is a the same as some Ford ( Tibbe ) keys . so I have bought a couple of basic
( no buttons ) Ford keys
so have a small key that I can easily hide as an emergency key.
In an emergency I can open the boot of my locked car without a key and without any damage.

As the repair used the original chip, it was simple. With the new buttons I can lock/unlock at a distance.

The co in Peterborough sounds like the people I used some time ago. V. Good.

>> £400 at Kia......
One of many examples of scandalous aftermarket profiteering. While queueing at the Ford dealers many years ago I remember observing the distress of a couple of elderly pensioners being confronted with a similar demand for a simple key replacement for their cheap car. Would probably have paid for their groceries for a month.

When we had the house fire I recovered 5 out of 6 car keys. The missing one was for the Outlander.
I ordered another from the dealer think I would stick it on the insurance claim. The insurers declined it. Might have been able to claim on car insurance, but the excess would have wiped out most of it. It was well over £400.

A few years back we were burgled, Stereo taken and set of car keys and front door keys.
Insurance paid out to change all locks on car and house inc reprogramming car.
NFU....
