I don't know if anyone here has a Hilux or if you know anyone who does, but there is a recall on the chassis for certain models appertaining to certain years. I have a 64 plate 3.0 double cab which has been assessed by the local franchise and its going off to Derby soon for a complete new chassis. Mine isn't too bad, but some of a similar age are literally falling apart. I think they go back to 2012 and I'm unaware of the date going forward. One criteria is you have to have owned it for 6 months minimum.

Yes, I did mention this on another thread.
I bumped into a Toyota Derby factory employee on holiday and he mentioned this. The recall is for pick-ups going back 12 years, for South African built models where the electro-plating in the factory was defective. Some just need rust-proofing, but some need more. Apparently where a whole replacement chassis is the solution it takes 40 hours of labour! They have set aside a section of the Derby factory for this.
At least you're getting a whole new chassis!

Absolutely brilliant to get a brand new chassis for free after all that time, get it undersealed as soon as possible afterwards and you’ve got a car for life.

Great service from Toyota. An 11yr old car that they’re going to put a new chassis in at huge cost. Chassis rot is unfortunately a very common issue with pickups in the UK, thanks to how exposed and usually unprotected they are and our salty wet winter roads which eat metal. That’s a great result, and if it’s mechanically good it’s fit for another decade or more.
No secret that I’m a big Toyota fan.

It is great service from Toyota.
Toyota do seem to have form for chassis problems, I’m reminded of the recalls for Toyota Tacoma 1995-2000 and Toyota Tundra 2000 to 2003, I think the years are correct.
However, the main point is that once an issue appears they do seem to look after the customer. Some US customers got brand new frames on 20 year old vehicles!

It is something Toyota do well...when there is a problem they do FACE it and put it right generally.
It's why I've bought nothing but Toyota for many many years now.
My own V6 Estima is now 22 years old and still going strong...just passed yet another MOT without issue...it simply has superb build quality..... and my wife's current Y20 Yaris bought new some 5 years ago has given exemplory service like the 3 Yaris models before it.
