I recall HJ writing how to identify the country a VW was built in from the VIN.
Can someone remind me.

This is the site I used for my 'fleet' of VW's at home.

I think I knew it already but nice to find that my GTI was born in Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg was on my agenda on a solo European driving tour a few years back. Enjoyed it, although the actual factory was closed at the time.
My memory is a bit hazy for the detail but the visitor area is quite a way from the factory. You can go and collect your new car. It is brought by underground robotic means to one of a number of towers, and parked up till you arrive - you can see it from the viewing area and it is brought to the pickup int robotically too. An option on the visit which I took was a trip into the tower on a car of some sort.
I also signed up for a test drive in their newest SUV - it felt huge at the time. I expected to be just driven around the rather extensive site but I was actually given the keys and allowed out on the roads with it on my own for half an hour - didn't expect that as a foreigner! There was loads more I could have signed up for, it really was an interesting tour - worth a visit if you get the opportunity!!

Thanks Rudedog my Polo was built in Mexico!

Correction it was built in South Africa.

I did wonder - that was a long way to come for a Polo.
My wife's 6R Polo was made in Uitenhage, South Africa while my son's 6R came from Pamplona, Spain.
