Not a claim as it turned out. Last month I was staying at a hotel down south from where I now live. It was meant to be a social/pleasure trip, overnighting was an option, but decided to break the 4 hour journey with a bit of a jolly.
Car was parked in a Hotel car-park and mid-afternoon saw me I chilling in my room.
Reception called to say that someone had struck and damaged my car. The driver had coughed the job and we exchanged details. My car was photographed in situ and as it happened I later found that the car's front and rear cameras had caught the incident. I was in one of my Zen frames of mind and I wasn't at all cross. The other driver was very honest. I called my Insurance broker to report the incident...within a few minutes I got a call from a claims managment comany offering me a hire car which I declined. Next day I got a call from a large international car hire and repair comapny - booking me into a local authorized repair centre and again offering me a hire car to the same spec as my own car.
I carried on with the rest of my trip to visit family in the south of England. I was a bit cheesed off about my car's wrecked door...but still in my calm zone. Loads of texts and emails from the Insurance broker, the two claims managment companies and the authorized repairer. But the repair was good to go. Got home and everything unraveled pretty quickly - the large hire/repair managment company and the authorized repairer pulled out cancelling all the arrangements. I phoned my broker and lodged a complaint with them about, my "journey" - this was really stressful for me and I retreated to bed ! Couple of hours later the actual insurance company phoned, told me not to worry, and there would be no cost. - checked me into a new repairer locally (who have an excellent reputation)
The car was duely taken, I was given a courtesy car and my car fixed within five days, and delivered to me fuly valeted all at no cost to me. Great service.
This was a very minor collision, but there were six different companies involved in the mix, making a very simple process very complex
As a result of my complaint to the broker (a bank) I got a call from a complaints' manager with a good offer of compensation.
phew.

Lucky escape.
Claims Management Companies string things out.
Hire Cars at very their eye watering day rates.
Lots of paperwork and grief down the road when another insurer baulks at the inflated bills
Pleased the repair job was to your satisfaction.
A son's neighbour is trying to deal with his daughter's bump - she was blameless but signed up for a claims management company - took weeks, hire cost greater than the repair cost.

My parting words to the other driver were that I wasn't going to rip him off..
