Decided to sell the GR Yaris.
Just returned from the first of two annual motoring trips overseas..each one 7/8 weeks, and I now spend at least half the years overseas. It just seemed an indulgence I cannot justify, and these trips are increasingly expensive…the return crossing to Santander/ Bilbao, even with an Early Bird booking & being very selective with dates, is best part of £1k.
Tried other alternatives, but BF from Portsmouth works for me.
Vitara is fine for getting me around Spain, Andorra, Picos & Pyrenees, and into northern Portugal come September.
When back late October I’m only home a matter of weeks before flying south again for a month , so Tommi Toyota sits neglected in my garage for extended periods.
Initial prices on a few sites show an acceptable rate of depreciation, so maybe now is the time…it’s the rarer ‘ convenience pack’ meaning HUD & better quality stereo, but without fancy wheels, sticky Michelins and trick diff, but what I wanted at the time.
3250 miles across Spain would be hard work…not the best visibility, hard ride and definitely insufficient room for my camping gear and inbound alcohol allowance.
It was great fun. Still is. But reason has won out.

Well at least you can say you had one, and you tickled your fancy.

Picked a Yaris up this morning as a loan car whilst the Audi is being fixed ( A bloke drove into it 3 weeks ago - full story to follow).
Strange little thing, has an EV mode which is a novelty for me. Seems ok

Think it's hybrid thing with Toyota. The Corolla we hired in Madiera was the same, or can you plug this one in.

Sometimes it is just time to move on. The Yaris was no doubt fun, but the Vitara is just more aligned to your current situation.
GADA (Go Anywhere Do Anything) cars usually win out in the end.

In Kefalonia Have hired a manual Fiesta. Must say I am missing my EV. The Fiesta seems so course and noisy and I miss the torque on the hairpin bends. Took me a while to remember the handbrake when parking!
Surprisingly few EVs on the island. You would think a small island where range is not an issue and more or less unlimited solar and expensive petrol they make a lot of sense. The price of them I suppose

The GRYaris would not be practical for my continental road trips…I need space for my camping gear, better all round visibility, and the harder ride would become wearisome. I just like to bimble along across the empty heart of Spain…staying in rooms above bars or restaurants, even camping
This Lexus NX 350h seems to get very favourable reviews for that kind of travel :-)

Something like a Macan would give you the best of both…
Oh wait…

The Macan GTS brought out the devil in me. It was not built for sedate long distance motoring. I tried. Several times. Failed miserably every time.
