I doubt anyone here will be taking it up but just out of interest Octopus are starting as scheme where for £299 a month you get a new BYD, a charger and all your driving electricity. There are some strings but it looks to me quite an innovative way to expand the EV take up.
They control your car charging, which at times acts as a battery to supply the grid rather than taking from it.

Deals like this always have strings attached. Like having to drive a BYD...

Come now! Surely a great opportunity to Build Your Dreams, young fellow!

Looks like if you have solar panels your out.

In summary - as I understand it:
- you get a car
- you get free electricity for motoring use up to whatever mileage is agreed
- they draw electricity off as required
The value of the "free" electricity if using alternative off peak rates would be ~£175 assuming 10k pa, 4 miles per kwh, and a price of 7p per kwh. About £15 per month.
Anyone considering this offer should compare it with the alternative:
- the cost of a similar vehicle which may better meet their needs or aspirations
- the cost, possibly with other providers, of off peak electricity

Well of course they should, goes without saying really.
Or was there a deeper point to your post? I suppose some people may not have realised they can do 10k miles pa for £15 a month fuel, about £180 a year.

The link doesn't work for me.

The not so deep point is that far too many folk get seduced by advertising believing the "free", " 2 for the price of 1", "bog-off", "mega discount" actually constitutes a good deal.
