Has any one made a claim for

Buying a diesel car ( I assume it has to be a new vehicle , or can it be on a 2nd hand one as well ?? , so I assume the claim against the manufacturer , and/or on finance , did you make the claim yourself ,was it easy or have you used a company you’d recommmed

Claim for what? What loss have you suffered?

I think there are two claimed losses that are connected.

They were advertised with lower emissions levels than they actually have, due to cheating software (VW Gate) so you were lied to.

Consequently, because emission levels were higher than they should have been, fuel economy would have been worse than it should have been.

One warning with these class actions , as I understand it, is that there is the possibility that the claimants will be liable for costs in some circumstances. The claim is not risk free.

Theoretical rather than real losses for most then

That's the way it's going in this country re major car purchases.

Just look at the current claims for car loans. Because a dealer may not have mentioned that they were getting commissions, there may be a claim, even though the overall cost of the car, including interest etc. would be unchanged, from an identical car elsewhere, because the commission enabled the dealer to give a discount, or reduce the sticker price etc.

We do now seem to live in a compensation culture.

The key word I think is seem.

I've considered this regarding either the Berlingo or the Roomster. The latter was part of the VW issue and I repeatedly asked them not to modify it as there were stories of loss of performance etc.

Given I cannot realistically claim I've lost anything I've no intention of claiming.

Same with finance. I took a small PCP deal on the Romoster 'cos there was a service contract involved but settled it after whatever wait was required. Again, no real loss.

The issue with finance has, I think some substance. The buyers were largely unsophisticated and only looking at the monthly payment. If the commission had been explained and properly disclosed they might have seen the wood rather than the trees.

The Supreme Court's decision in this case will be interesting I think.

Simplified figures...

Car for sale. Listed at £12,000 at the dealer. Other garages have near identical cars at £12,000.

Customer wants to buy it but can't afford the £12,000. Dealer reduces the car to £10,000 if a loan is taken out. Loan costs £2,000 over the term. There is no margin to reduce the price of the car without the loan.

Total cost of the car is £12,000 including interest.

Where is the loss?

I was clearing out some old paperwork a few months ago and found an agreement for HP on a car way back. It was one of those taken and settled fairly quickly as there was a benefit to taking HP. Cant remember what.
Anyway squirreled away in the figures was, guess what? Yes a PPI fee. Never bothered with such add ons as job security/illness cover was good. Too late for claim. Not even crossed my mind at the time.
I do recall many months after the purchase getting a call from a senior Manager at the dealership trying to find my PX on the vehicle. I'd not actually PX'd but sold privately. Clearly someone was being a bit shifty at the dealership.

The loss is that if they can sell the car for £10 K and are able to offer a loan which would only cost £1.5 K, you have been diddled out if £500.

I don’t know , but there’s been many adverts claiming if you bought a diesel car , there’s a possibility of a claim . I was just wondering if anyone had tried and been successful

The main one I was querying , I bought a Renault Scenic as a 52:on Finace and then a Capture in 15 on finance , wouldn’t have a clue if they added anything , I suppose it I chose a company and they find I have over paid ,and I was charged 1,000 more than I should have been ,and the company gets 30% I could live with 700
