A bit of a confessional here...
The Golf GTI I inherited from my wife nearly ate me. Could be an old 'Sunday Sport' headline!
An occasional Friday lunchtime treat I give to myself is getting Fish and Chips in the town where I work. I drive to a local car park, open the car window, turn on the Radio 4 News / whatever else is on, and stand next to the car to eat said lunch out of the paper wrapping whilst listening to the radio. Done like this so I don't stink out the car for the next days.
Recently I was following routine and leant through the open window to turn up the volume on the radio, but as I did this, I must have pushed the 'Lock' button on the key in my trouser pocket as I was leaning against the door.
The doors locked and immediately the electric window rose, pinning me quite firmly half in / half out of the car.
It stopped (thank god), but it hurt a lot and I was pretty stuck. I assumed that there would be quite a bit of 'bounce-back' as part of the safety mechanism, but my "rather larger than it should be" stomach was rather firmly held. I must have looked quite a sight.....
I did manage to slowly and carefully pull myself out, but was left with quite bad bruising about 6 or 7 inches across my stomach that lasted for >two weeks and was very painful. The motors that power these windows are very strong, and I was hugely relieved that these safety systems detecting resistance work, but gosh it hurt!
A lesson learnt and I won't be doing that again in a hurry! :)

Lucky you're not a bit taller.

Am I the only one who is curious to know if the fish and chips were in your hands at the time or had you left them on the roof or something?
I guess the first scenario would be slightly preferable in the event of an extended period of indisposition.
It’d be quite upsetting to have to listen to a seagull or similar stealing your lunch while so inelegantly delayed wouldn’t it?

'Auto up' is potentially quite dangerous to children sticking their heads out. Most cars I've had in recent years have only had auto down. Neither of mine will close windows while locking.
I will say that that at least one I've had with auto-up did back off a couple of inches after being jammed by a body part.

Mine will auto up, both on the key from outside and from the interior switch, I think it has significant bounce back to.
Like the Runfer, I too was more concerned about the haddock and chips.

I was ore concerned with Manatee's " body part" ! I hope he wasn't parked up in some local " dogging" spot !

The fish and chips (mainly Cod down here in the south) was - from memory - on the roof. I say from memory, as I was more concerned about my seemingly fully trapped status, and what the hell I was going to go to extricate myself :) I was lucky no one seemed to have been looking.....
To be honest, I am surprised the gulls didn't get my lunch. If I was a bit further south then it would have been a certainty!

I was lucky no one seemed to have been looking.....
if only it was on camera, could have gone viral :)

At least it's only pride that's been dented SFD. Before the advent of safety systems in electric windows, it could have been much more serious.

That's very true. I can picture what that would have been like without it and if kids were involved..... I shudder to think.....
