Seems a good idea but its a pity thet dont go all the way and introduce a digital identity card.

I'm glad they aren't. The cost would have been astonishingly expensive. Probably an IT disaster (we're good at that).

Plus, you would get every tiny tin-pot official - we seem to breed them here - insisting on seeing it before allowing you to do anything.
