Recently noticed the V5 for my 30 year old Landcruiser states ’Petrol’ when it should be Diesel for fuel type. Spoke to DVLA and they said send in V5 with the change, and if they require any further info they’ll let me know.
Today I get the original V5 back with a letter requiring more info. Unfortunately I can’t provide any of the things they ask for - Letter from dealer I bought it from, letter from garage that did the conversion etc. So how do explain to them, and prove, that it’s always been a diesel from day one in Japan, and appears to have been incorrect, and unnoticed, until now?

Does the VIN number track back to the original details with the manufacturer and a dealer might be able to access that for you?
|
I guess so, but that isn’t one of the options they require to be fulfilled. Strange that at all the MOTs it has had a diesel smoke test.

Don’t think I’d bother . If the ved rate is correct for a Diesel, probably too complicated to get it changed.

....but Pandora's box has now been opened.....

I was hoping to import it into sweden, and figured it may cause problems when reregistering it, so was hoping to pre-empt any problems.

DVSA shows it as diesel on the check mot site. I wonder where they get their info from.
|
Did you say it was a personal import from japan? What do the details on the IVA (Individual vehicle approval) paperwork say?
|
No, it was boight new in 1993 from a dealer in southern england.
