What's the point of that then? Must cost a fortune for a special bus, and it still has two staff members, one of whom sits in the driver's seat anyway.

Unless words have lost their meaning - which is quite possible - then this bus, which has two members of staff on board, one of whom sits in the "drivers" seat, is not autonomous.
|
Choices:
- run the bus initially with a driver who can take over if the systems fail
- simply assume that all will be ok and take out the drivers seat
Know which I would choose both as a passenger and bus company.

You forgot the man walking in front with the red flag!

...the original story took pains to qualify it...
The UK government said Project CAVForth would be the world's first full-size, self-driving public bus service.

A bus is a bus. All that means is more people will get injured / killed should something go wrong.

If we take part of the Oxford Eng. definition of 'autonomous' ie. ..operating without direct human control.. we've had autonomous buses in Basingstoke for years.
