As ever with these things there's more to it than the Sun suggests.

Right now the Missouri Courts website is not working but there's a summary of the facts here:

The STD concerned was anogenital HPV. IIRC HPV is a common precursor to cervical cancer.

It seems that the recipient of the disease sued the donor and agreed the compo at arbitration. There was then an attempt to limit his personal liability and offload the bulk of it onto GEICO.

What seems to have happened is that GEICO have been unsuccessful in challenging that process.
