I do wonder about these things.

I was in Marseille in the late 70's and saw a brand new car being reversed in to a lamppost deliberately. The driver didn't even get out to check it.

The locals said it was deliberate and happens all the time and would be a nice insurance job.

Ability exceeded by experience?

I recall Jason Plato trying to drive a VX490 at Goodwood and explaining "I looked into the bag of ability and found nothing", or something similar.

Who in their right mind would try to race a VX490?

Yeah, Cupras are like busses, very slow accelerating, folk tend to run into the back of them.
