Ok folks, what do you think?
I ordered a new car in June, lead times were bad and it was not expected before November. Well it's turned up today, sooner than anyone thought and should be available for me to collect in the next week or so, keep in mind that no one has contacted me since I put the deposit down, 19th June.
I tell the dealer that despite having little time to get rid of my existing motor, I'll have it next Friday, the 1st, he says fine but they'll have to register it this month, September, and spins me some crap about it being VW rules!
I suggest to him that rules thing is rubbish and that it's all about his sales numbers in September and that I'm not happy having the motor a month older for the sake of a day.
Neither the sales guy I did the deal with, nor the manager were available this lunch time so I was dealing with another of the sales staff. I awaiting a call back about the issue.
Am I being unreasonable, what does the forum think I should do?

Sorry - I can't see what you're getting hot and bothered about. Will the earlier registration date make a blind bit of difference to you?

It won't make much difference to the value of the car since the reg isn't changing and it's still very much 2010 - but you'll lose a month's road tax, maybe suggest they compensate you with a full tank of fuel or some mats or something ?

As a new vehicle they will be able to register with an extra week of road tax (or at least they used to be able to- I assume it is still the same) so therefore you shouldn't miss out on the tax issue.
However they obviously need to have the registration for target purposes in September so I would push to get some sort of sweetener from them.
Hope that helps
Nick

If you want to the car on the 1st day of the month, thay have to register and tax it on the last day of the month so its ready for you, dont they?

|
Get it registered on the 2nd anyway - if it's the 1st then it adds a time pressure once the car needs an MOT as you can't renew the tax until the MOT has been renewed

...and spins me some crap about it being VW rules!...
The willingness to tell the customer a load of garbage would annoy me the most.
They clearly think you are gullible, which is insulting.
As others have said, this is something they should be made to pay for.
The only question is how much?
I reckon either cash or goods/services to the value of fifty quid minimum, £100 max.

As I've just told the sales guy dealing with my new motor, it was the pink fluffy dice that wound me up, an insult for sure lffy!
Anyway, after much apologies and a personnal plea with the truth about targets thrown in I've accepted the 30th with a tank of fuel.
Thanks for your comments guys.

The end of September is the end of quarter 3...
Q3 in salesspeak.

I'm with you on this one. wouldn't mind it being registered a few days early I just wouldn't like being lied to.
It's a smack of "We'll fob you off and we think you're gullable enough to swallow it" attitude.
This reminds me of a complete lack of customer service experience when I was renovating a house. We had decided on a bathroom suite from a DIY store as it was on sale. But the sale was ending soon.
We decided to buy it before the sale ended, then we had to have it delivered as apparently they were awaiting part of it (the bath IIRC) to be delivered.
"Fine" was my response. "I don't need it immediately. You can have my money now and I'll quite happily wait a week or two as I'm not actually ready for it yet" Besides I didnt' have anywhere to store it at that point.
A few days later I got a phone call to say the suite would arrive the following day. As I said I wasn't too bothered about having it quickly but would be happy to wait in for it if they were delivering it.
So the morning of the day it was to be delivered I contacted the DIY store and asked them for an approx time. "The delivery driver's got it on the van and he'll be with you later in the morning" was the reply.
As I was busy that day, my wife gave up her morning to go and wait for it. It didn't arrive at all. By mid afternoon I phoned the store again only to be told that they couldn't deliver it because they were still waiting for the missing component.
"So the delivery driver hadn't even loaded it on his van?" I asked
"No" came the reply "He didn't even have it on his job sheet"
"So, why was I told by a young lady that it was on its way then?"
"We wouldn't have told you that sir - it's not out for delivery at all yet"
"I want to speak to the store manager NOW!"
Store manager phones me up a few minutes later.
Basically it would appear that this young lady's tactic to avoid customers being cross with her was to tell them that deliveries that are scheduled to go out as planned. I explained to the store manager that if she had told me the truth I wouldn't have been annoyed at all. If I were then she would be able to politely end the call knowing that she had done her job. Whereas all she did was to waste a whole day for my wife.
My offer to go into the store and explain this to the young lady with the store manager present was declined - pity.
