Winter projects do you have any? - Bigtee
Been looking for something to do in winter that i can do in the workshop in the cellar near the lovely central heating boiler!

Last sunday we went to a steam fair up here in wet West Yorkshire and wandering round saw these stationary engines running & working a variety of water pumps, air pumps, saws etc.

This got me thinking when i got home and looked on the e bay & a purchase was made for a Lister model D stationary engine as a start winter project, The idea is to put it together just to see if it will run before i decide what to do restoration wise.

I have just joined the Traction engine forums for some help and advice when required.

Do you have any winter projects? Do you look for anything?

Well it's not motoring but I bought an untidy one of these earlier this year..

I've the case to restore, backing paper scales to replace, mercury tube to clean and re-fill, make up the secret recipe for the weather glass contents and so on. Anazingly all parts are available.

It's going to be a winter *on the dining table* project and undoubtedly the source of friction as I get to a delicate stage just as a meal is due to be dished up.

I can imagine that mercury and chips might just be living on the edge.

Mercury spill.... oh it's no trouble as it rolls off the table onto the floor and the dog licks it up.

Yes but not have it Royal Mail posted. I've enough in the shed for a couple of barometers though.

Not done a Fitzroy before but as a teen was helping the old chap who was a clock dealer/restorer so it's familiar stuff.
