Its that time, car insurance renewal, currently with Privilege, will do the usual comparison websites and directline - any other recommendations that won't appear on the compare type websites.

40 year old couple, boring diesel car, boring jobs so not exactly high risk!

The missus and I got a good deal from Aviva. Don't try the web site, phoning them got it cheaper.

Good shout Zero - most quotes so far between £275 and £325, Aviva are showing £210 !! And thats online!

LV have always done the biz for me, despite their lamentable advertising!

First direct were offering to better your renewal by 10%, but it sounds as though Aviva may still be cheaper for you

Usually get quotes from comparison sites and then take out cover via Quidco and get the cashback - which has varied bwtween £40 - £70. Have used Esure a few times also Co-op and Liverpool Vic. as well. Currently with Bradford and Bingley Insurance.....UK based Customer Service, which has been OK to date and very competetively priced. Reg.No. appeared on the MID within 4 days. They use a panel of underwriters - bit like the AA as I gather. Just renewed my Jazz. Comprehensive cover at £125.53 + £21.89 Legal Protection. Total £155.48 (less Quidco cashack provided you click through the Quidco site).

My wife went through Quidco and the new Hyundai i10 1.2 cost her £152.58 with Co-op Insurance less £65 Quidco cashback resulting in a years Comp. cover for £87.58. UK based Cust. Service again.

Refuse to use Morethan now as call centres are all over the world and I can usually enjoy a more meaningful conversation with someone in the UK.

Clearly, you never know how good they really are, till you claim...and then it's too late if you picked a bad'un but I don't necessarily believe that paying more automatically gives you better insurance.

Try Tesco - basically the same insurer as Churchill and Direct Line. If you've got a clubcard and regularly amass points on it then you might get an extra discount on the policy premium.

Didn't Tesco stop using that insurer? Or about to?

Not knocking Tesco. Our home insurance is with them but not tried claiming or anything. It's through Tesco I got the credit checks via Experian for free.

Direct Line closing down offices / jobs in Glasgow and moving some admin to INDIA.

Esure across the street from DL in Glasgow are recruiting some ex DL workers.

Esure did India for some admin 10 years ago and then brought it back to UK.

It depends on whether you truly want a good buy, i.e. good quality cover at a reasonable price, or whether you want the cheapest regardless of the quality of cover. If it's the former, then I recommend The Co-operative Insurance. tinyurl.com/5awbfb

Did you know confused.com is owned by Admiral?

Phew! I've just moved the house insurance from DL to Co-op. Good to hear they provide quality cover.

DL did the 30+% premium hike thing, second year running. Got round it last year by going to DL web site and getting a MASSIVE reduction on my existing premium. Couldn't be bothered this year. If they want to treat me like an idiot, I'm off.

So when the car insurance is due for 'im and 'er...

How can you tell about good cover? You pay today and sometime in the future you may make a claim, it is only then you find out how good or bad the Ins Co are IN YOUR CASE!

Lots of variables - the claims handler (good or bad), the Bodyshop (good or bad), availability of parts (Franchise main dealer & Manufacturer), cooperation or otherwise of 3rd party.................

DiL claim for rear ended, 3rd party admitted liability, she took DL Ins Co preferred repairer, car hire etc and it was a shambles. Repair 4 days took 2 weeks, Stevie Wonder did the colour match, car hire offered was Daewoo (no isofix safety seat)............ On complaining the Red Telephone people said your problem.......eventually fixed after more hassle

and Insurer changed @ renewal - Cheaper cover from ANother insurer - how good are they? cannot say as no claims have been made.

AA quoted SWMBO £143 for renewal.
Saga quoted £90. We took offer of Home insurance quote.. and saved £15 so £75.

Home insurance quote last year Esure was c £250. They wanted a security device linked to a call centre this year (£££s).
So we insured with SHeila's Wheels c£250.
Guess who underwrites Sheila's Wheels? Esure..
(and no security call centre)..

(Saga were £580).

I have separate legal cover .. HJ site.

I Always shop around..

You read the terms of the policy.

I've always chosen the repairer myself, and always used the bodyshop of the relevant franchised dealer.

>> cooperation or otherwise of 3rd party.................

All I need from the third party is their details and the details of their insurer. If they won't exchange details, then I don't care. My insurer takes care of everything, except the actual repair. It's what I pay them for.

According to the Quidco site I can get £50 cashback with Aviva so even cheaper!

But has anyone else encountered problems trying to log into the Quidco site? I have an account, it says password is wrong. I get new password emailed, I try copy / paste this as well as re-entering it manually and it still comes back to say incorrect!!

Grrr!

My insurance on the KA is due next month and the cheapest (maybe not best) quote is from E Sure @ £165 including legal, courtesy car and PNCB.

Nearly 500 notes for the CC3.

Must be a combination of a dodgy post code and an oh so desirable and quick car.

Its the claims for wet seats and carpets that puts it in a higher risk band.
