Recommend a decent indie in South Manchester - Fursty Ferret
The Passat is due an oil change. I don't have the tools, time, or inclination to do it myself and plan to throw it at an independent garage along with the OEM oil and filter and get them to do it.

Rattle / Ted - do you know a good garage within easy drive of Didsbury?

Cheers,

Dave.

J D Rundell in Navigation Road, Altrincham-ish, have been looking after my mother's car for years. Seem very fair indeed; don't charge her for changing lightbulbs, etc between services.

The garage I have used for more serious stuff is the one Ted recomended me, I can't remember the name but I think it may be Palatine Garage, its just next to the Shell petrol station on Barlow Moor Road.

The prices are pretty much commercial rates, there are cheaper places that will do simple stuff but I am going to recomended the bloke down the pub who has a back street garage for obvious reasons he knows me too well!. I don't want him to know who I am (e.g rattle).

Ian who runs Palatine is very honest too, he spotted my snapped springs when no other garage could and it wasn't exactly hard to spot. He also confirmed the HG on the Corsa.

I would avoid Parkway Autos in Didsbury because they are slightly on the high side but they may well be perfectly ok but my experience wasn't that good.

The rest of of the garages I will probably do nothing but slag off so I shall them out of this thread for again obvious reasons.

The bloke my dad uses is very honest and if anything he is a bit too causual but it suits my dad perfectly fine. He is very cheap though and does live data scans for free etc, he is very much more into the electrical and computer side of things than messing about with engines though.

I guess it really depends if you want a good proper back street indie or a bloke in a pub who has a big lockup :).

The Bridge Garage in Chorlton has a good reputation with my customers and we have used them for a wheel bearing. They look after one of my customers Volvo which now has 180,000 on the clock. Parking is a major issue and again they do charge full prices, e.g only slightly less than dealers/big chains.

If you fancy a run up to Hazel Grove, Stockport I can highly recommend The General Motor Company. They are VAG specialists, and a mate of mine is a senior mechanic.

Only snag is they get booked up very quickly, so you might have to wait a week or so to get a slot, as it were.

If you can venture as far as Reddish then I know the people who run (and own) the Citroen Repair Centre. An honest down to earth back street garage. If it's just an oil change then you could try them? As long as your car doesn't need anything resetting via a computer.

The main guy is Dave and the details are: 0161 432 0636. They were/are on the garage list on HJ too.

Or slightly closer and we always use Mini-Max which is in Heaton Chapel not far from the A6. 0161 432 8011. They are very honest. When they've done MOT's etc for us they never make up work.

Minimax do all the work for the firm my son works for , Rob...EasyDrive.
Palatine garage is at the back of the Shell on Barlow Moor Road, Andy owns it and is very fair, he's done an awful lot for me and I've known him for years. 862 9182....I think offhand.

Ian is the tester at the Shell garage...they don't do repairs but you get a good fair test.
I've got a Xsara in there tomorrow and might get Andy to put a belt on if he feels it needs it.
Very low miles but 6 yrs old .
