Factory blaze adds to computer chip supply crisis

Lean supply chains and centralised production don’t help.
|
I work in this business - a whole bunch of things have conspired to cause the current issues.
Customers are used to placing orders at fairly short notice (even though it takes 3-4 months to make chips from start to finish) and now we're having to tell them to order for 1H22.
|
>> to order for 1H22.
1H22 looks like a train operating number.....
|
1H22 = First Half of 2022.
|
.....or an hour and 22 minutes..... ;-)
|
1H22 = First Half of 2022......
Illogical Captain.
We use Q122 to mean first quarter
Should be H122
However, I've never seen 1H used.

Try Googling 1H20. Then H120.
|
This is getting as bad as "Line of duty".

or EO Q222

Absolutely not.
|

I have, usually in the Finance sector. I have never seen H122.
More usually one sees H1 22.
H1 22
Q1 22
W1 Feb
Are the ones I have seen and used all over the world.
H122 would mean nothing to me, though I guess I'd work it out. And then correct it.

Its actually called a train reporting number, or headcode
1
Express passenger train, postal train, newspaper train or breakdown train or snow plough going to clear the line, or light locomotive going to assist disabled train.
Officers' special train not requiring to stop in section.
H Destination code
Birmingham / Manchester
22 Train number
22 will be an early morning service

(a) I remembered that as soon as the edit window close
(b) I knew who'd correct me.
Google suggests a Marylebone/Birmingham service.
|
Here's the internal memo we got:
"Many customers are also placing orders for 2022. Please communicate with your customers and get them to book their 2022 (or at the least 1H22) orders now."
These things are written in every way imaginable and in the usual context the meaning of any of the formats is obvious. I hate forum posts with industry acronyms in them, so should have considered the meaning might not be clear.

You wait till you get me on the subject of SR headcode disks.............

Please don't Bromp. For all our sakes, please, don't encourage him...

Dont blame me, I didnt start it.

SR trains with route numbers on the front. They used them on the DC line from Watford to Euston/Broad St as well.
IIRC the Euston train was B1 and the Broad St service a few minutes ahead was B3.
|
>> Oh jeez here we go...
Sorry.....
|
This is, loosely, a motoring forum. So is it possible that any train related posts or threads could, for the purposes of this site at least, be substituted with some sort of train-post replacement post service. And be about cars instead. Or anything else really :p

If you want on topic posts, boy is your sat nav out of kilter, wrong place completely sunshine.
|
....anyway, I'm now very confused. Have we come to the conclusion that the chips are delayed due to the wrong kind of snow, or a "defective junction box, New Malden"......
TIPLOC codes, anyone?
|
If TIPLOCS are going to be of any use to me, I'd need the NESA, so the CRS(TIPLOC) is best - all I need there is the A to Z. Need the TOPS number of course so I know if its worth going out for.

Might be delayed even further if this goes on for a while.

This is getting pretty messy

Looks like several ships are now going the long way around, reports upto 100 ships affected.
The Dutch company trying to free it, suggesting it could take several weeks.
|
Chips don't get moved around by sea, they go by air and typically make several flights during the manufacturing process.
Air freight is a problem too at the moment with far fewer flights as often freight is carried on passenger flights.

Cynically I wonder whether it may also be convenient timing if demand is low...
