It’s been interesting chatting to my pal in the trade a few evenings a week with regard to buying my next car. After 30+ years in the trade, having a role as workshop controller in main dealers for three marques over 20 years and now heading up a large independent auto engineers, he has a wealth of experience. A few times I’ve shortlisted cars only to be advised to think twice...bear in mind these are not new cars with a long warranty.
Long story short he still favours Japanese over German in the reliability stakes, and he rates Ford ( but not the longevity of the 1.0 3cyl engine).
