It will be built by one of the big UK bus builders I imagine. I think from memory the contract went to Wright who mainly tend to supply Firstbus.
I think London really does need a new bus, its full of clapped out early 2000's miss matched standard models from the operators at the moment.
The only downside is that in Manchester for example we always get brand new buses that tend to stay in Manchester for a few years then move to smaller towns/cities. This means we constantly have a brand new supply of buses. The latest 60 plate hybrid ones have just gone into service this week for example.
If this design is unique for London then they will be difficult to sell on due to a being a none standard model which means London could be stuck with them for a very long time. Still anything is ten times better than the mess London buses are currently in.

And are they still badged as Crossleys? ;-)

The Crossley works are long gone :( as it Reynold chains just up the road from the Crossley works.
In south Manchester most the buses now are Stagecoach Alexandra Dennis Enviro 400s and now H400s.
The last of the proper manc buses were the SELNEC types by Northern Counties made from 1968 to 1988ish and they were unique to Manchester. Now every single town/city just has idenitcal buses in identical liverly.
At least TFL have some unique requirements such as straight staircases and roller blinds for the destination which makes the London ones slightly different, oh and they all must be red.
