One of the the thinks I liked about Norfolk Line was that they didn't take coaches. Just noticed that since the takeover by DFDS they have enterered the coach market. There goes the piece and quiet! I guess its a good way to boost sales of tickest for the first class lounge

Too true!
I apply the same rationale to hotels too, if you are paying proper money, stay away from anywhere that takes coach parties.
I was caught out recently, I was in a hotel in Welwyn GC for a few nights, third morning the breakfast (very nice) buffet was replaced by waitress service, I enquired and was told, "ah, it's the coach party you see, if we put it out they eat it all"!

One of my main reasons for using them was because no coaches! Also they used to be very flexible on use of tickets.
I will start looking at the other deals.

I once got similarly caught out on a business trip when I stayed in a large hotel near Bonn. First morning I came down to be greeted by an enormous and varied breakfast buffet with everything from bacon and eggs, through croissants to raw fish and sushi. Came down the second morning to find the restaurant full of danish pensioners and the buffet empty, and I mean empty. They'd even eaten the bits of parsley used as trimming. A waitress came and apologised to me and admitted they'd known about the coach party in advance but completely underestimated their appetite. I did notice some of the women surreptitiously stuffing baps into their handbags - presumably to use for lunch.

Booking ferries recently, didn't get beyond fuel surcharge with Norfolk Line. Seem to be the Ryanair of the ferry world - bargain headline fares, final price not so good.
|
Still pretty cheap I think. Taking the ferry tomorrow - £42 return to Dunkerque for car and 4 adults inc fuel surcharge. Booked 3 weeks ago Could have made it £10 cheaper if had taken an earlier ferry

Stayed in a hotel in Italy on a coach tour but I think our company must have been paying more for it's breakfast buffet than other firms. There were three coach parties staying in the hotel and each party had it's own buffet laid out but the other two parties raided ours as it was the best.

Can anyone explain this weird Scandinavian behaviour? Seen it in several countries.
They pile their plates high with weird, inappropriate and stomach turning combinations.
Any combinations I could make up like kippers and marmalade, boiled eggs and grapefruit, bananas and pickled gherkins are probably near to the mark.
Do they then throw up in their toilet's afterwards? None of them seem to be the waddling mountains we get in our town.
Norfolk Line has been recommended to me as well but I'm happy with the early booking cheap fares we get with Sea France.

Having spent most of the last 5 months living and eating in Stockholm there does seem to be this somewhat eclectic approach to meals. I've seen and eaten all sorts of combinations; can't say I'm a fan of having cold yoghurt next to my hot chicken on a plate. Not many fat people to be seen though.
At least Ikea and McDonalds are much the same the world over, although you do tend to get more Lingonberry jam with your meatballs in Stockholm than Southampton Ikea.

The fuel surcharge @7.50€ did smart a bit when the crossing was only 18.50 then the fiver for using a credit card however, when compared with the 97€ eurotunnel wanted I'll keep my 66€ as I'm not in any rush.

Just come back from a week long bike trip in France.
Normally, we travel with Norfolk Line because it's usually the cheapest. Not this year though, if I recall, they wanted 50 odd quid each this year and Sea France wanted £39.Taking into account that the crossing is to Calais instead of Dunkirk, we also saved on crossing time plus a few miles off our planned route.
