Police said both front seats were fully reclined, and the driver and passenger were apparently asleep

He (police) said that when they put on their emergency lights the Tesla accelerated, with vehicles ahead of it moving out of the way.

The Tesla was obviously set on an illegally high cruise control setting and when other vehicles responded to the police lights and vocated its lane it gave it some welly.

Will Tesla respond with a interlock between seat back angle and road speed ?

Rather than having to design a car around an utter moron, canĀ“t we just superglue the idiots to a large rock?

I just thought how could anyone be so stupid, then it said '20-year-old'.

Oh, I see.

It also said 'completely autonomous, with little driver input needed'.

A perfect square, with five sides?

That's another way of saying they're nowhere near full autonomy. He means hard problems. The easy ones have been solved already.

I'm impressed that they could actually go to sleep, but I assume that is on a motorway-type road. Even so I don't think I'd fancy it.

These idiots are the same ilk who used to buy certain BMW models.

Too true Lygonos. Not to get too philosophical about it all, but there must have been a sort of sweet spot in the evolution of mankind. A point where they had developed enough skills and capabilities to progress and protect themselves, but when the weak of mind or body still, in general, didn't survive long enough to pass on their genes. In severe danger of getting way too dark here of course. Not to be taken as a wish, merely an observation. Here endeth etc... ;-)

There's a word for it, decadence. The species is in decay. Perhaps evolution is a one way street and once an organism has made complex adaptations, unless its environment remains constant, then having ratcheted itself into inappropriate specialisation it is doomed.
