Thanks. Looks all clear.
M1 Southbound was a bit of a bottleneck last time I went South.

Well that leaves you some way short of winchester. I assume the A34 is the final part of this journey?

And Google Maps has live traffic maps. Very useful.

Err correct :-(

The M1 can be sticky south of the M18.
An alternative would be to stay on the A1, but if you're going to do that, you may as well go the whole hog and stick with it until the M25.
Watch out for the fixed cameras on the sections that have not been upgraded to (M) status.

Too late to warn you but:
I do the run between Basingstoke and my folks place north of Sheffield and that used to be my preferred route.
Last time, May I think, I came back M1, M25, M3 and it was quicker and less hassle despite the work on the M25.
The A42/M42 is full of Honda Civics overtaking trucks at 57mph and you've got active traffic management and cameras all the way from J7 to the M40. The M40 is fine. Once you reach the A34 though you're back to the trucks and Civics. Breakdowns and accidents frequently cause havoc on the A34 too.

Well is was busy dark and wet round Birmingham but no roadworks.
Came back A34, A43 and M1 in daylight much smoother and nearly 30 mins quicker.
