As many of you will know the A1 is being upgraded to a motorway between Dishforth and Leeming Bar in North Yorkshire. There are a couple of parts where there are narrow lanes and running on the new road but a large stretch in the middle where the new road is to the east of the current road so the new construction does not affect the current road. (from about Burneston to Ripon) The whole stretch from Leeming to Dishforth is covered by average speed cameras.
My question is this: will the cameras be working in the part where there no road works? I travel on this section regularly and often wonder as I am sitting there at 50 mph if the trucks and cars whizzing past me at great speed know something I don't or are they going to get a nasty letter.

The Traffic Regulation Order made to cover The A1 Motorway (Dishforth to Barton Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 2008 will contain the extent of the 50 limit and signed as such. Over those points then the limit is 50 and elswhere NSL. One can only be done for exceeding the 50 limit where one is in force.

Well, the whole length of the roadworks is signed as being 50mph so I guess that must be the limit. I am wondering if those foolhardy souls who go shooting past know something about the cameras that I don't.
I saw a very flash Range Rover making very rapid progress up there recently: I had already spotted in the mirror that it was missing a front number plate. Made me wonder who or what might have been on board.

...who go shooting past know something about the cameras that I don't...
Don't think so.
This stretch of road is not far from my caravan.
I know of two people who have received speeding tickets, so I can confirm the average speed cameras work.
