You can use www.defaqto.com/ to compare offerings in motor and other insurances.

Was just using this and discovered the company I want to go with dosn't offer new car replacement. What I liked about direct line is if I have an accident they would give me a new car instead of market value for the first 12 months. With elephant I would just get market value which means I would be in debt. However I also have GAP insurance so I suppose the issue isn't relevant.

Depends on how the car is financed. If it's a simple bank loan you're in the position you are in. If it's a form of hire purchase then it might be a little different. But don't worry about it!
