When I worked for a German company in the 80s employees were given the choice of five different meals for lunch. You had to choose from the list which one you wanted before 9am and then received a ticket according to your choice.

A Scottish colleague came out on a training course and was continuously complaining about the food. His command of German was limited to "Ein beer bitte" so the menus were complete gibberish to him.

I met him in the lunch queue one day and he said "Finally, there's something on the menu I can eat."

He was slightly disappointed when his Matjes Hamburger Art turned out to be "herrings in the Hamburg style" and not a Big Mac.

No. It was Nixdorf Computer in Paderborn.
