Bargain price for 2 years lease of a new high spec Astra.
Works out as £194/mth after amortising fees, with no road tax to pay.
Dunno if it needs a service at 2 years before it goes back.
200hp, leather, toys.
but, yes, it's a Vauxhall

What's wrong with Vauxhalls?
I quite like them.
In truth I'm not sure there are many, if any, bad cars these days. Just ones we like more or less.
|
I'm sure it's a decent motor. A bit plain looking though, compared to even Korean rivals.
Can be bought for under £19k (about 5 grand off list), but even at that price I expect it would depreciate way more than the lease cost over 2 years and 20k miles.

Most of the complaints seen on specific make and model forums are personal preferences rather than design defects.
|
2 or 3 weeks ago my wife came home with a Nissan Murano that she'd bought on what was supposedly a trip to visit a friend.
It's ugly as sin. In reality, much uglier than that. It brings a whole new meaning to the word "ugly".
But in fact it's quite a pleasant car and grows on me as I get used to it. Not a proper off road SUV, but actually quite a good road and field car.
A shame that it was not so much smacked with the ugly stick as repeatedly beaten with the entire tree.
But when regarding modern cars to use every day do we pay much attention to form over function? I don't think so.
As Old Navy said, most complaints these days seem related to preference rather than defect or failure.

One of these, I don't know if they are available in the UK...

No I've seen one in the UK. Driven the previous model a few times, seemed reasonable enough, didn't like the interior though. Old fashioned even for an soon to be upgraded/replaced car.
|
No, I don't think it is old fashioned. Just pig ugly.
It's a lovely car to drive around town. I don't really like the CVT much, but it's ok.
The car is very comfortable, very well-equipped and has loads of toys. The engine is 3.5l or thereabouts, which makes it very competent but it doesn't set the world alight. Very good for cruising at high speed. Lovely and quiet.
Easy to drive.
One real downside is that you have poor visibility of the perimeter of the car when manoeuvring. The cameras help, but it's still not good.
Boot's a bit unexpectedly small as well.
|
A close call between that and the Nissan Juke in the ugly stakes.
|
Forgot to add, the model I was talking about was the one before yours.
|
I’ve seen quite a few old style Murano’s in the U.K. and plenty in the USA. I wasn’t aware there was a new model.
Coincidentally an old model Murano pulled into the car park behind me tonight. The owner took away a chicken jalfrezi so his ‘taste’ isn’t that bad.
|
To be honest I didn't know there was an older model. Certainly this is the current model. I haven't asked her what she paid for it, I suspect I'm happier not knowing.
Still, as I said, it's a very pleasant car for normal use. Smaller boot then I like, and I doubt it's ability in proper off road conditions.
The stereo is pretty good, the lights are a bit average. I don't ñike the in car systems navigation control much. A sort of wheel amd a few buttons. Still, better than a touch screen I guess.
The only gadget I can think that it hasn't got is heated seats. But leaving here that's not an issue.
Its just very ugly, competent and not that special.

That looks very similar to the X-Trail over here.
|
The following site is in Spanish, but you'll see pictures of the XTrail and the Murano next to each other.

They're very close in size. The Murano is very slightly bigger. (5" on the Wheelbase, 10" on overall length, for example).
I don't think either look very good, to be honest.

The Daughter's employer requires her to hire through their approved supplier rather than drive her own/husband's car on their business.
Last one she turned up here in was an Astra. Diesel motor and presumably mid range trim.
Interior was incredibly dark - headlining was a sort of charcoal colour. Driver's seat had an incredibly long cushion. Might have been OK for me as average male but she's female (obvs) and has inherited her mother's short legs. Needed a cushion in small of her back to move her knees forward enough that she could use the pedals.
Don't think it will be on their list next year when Skoda Octavia's PCP ends.

Friend is looking for a new car and speaking to her accountant to see if lease deals make sense. She is a one man band and is VAT registered.
Is there a central way of searching for lease deals or do you need to search every provider and see what their prices are? There's not an Auto Trader type site that you can search for a a car and get all the deal options is there?
Are there any providers out there seen as being the cheapest or is it literally depend on who has what vehicles at any particular time?
|
For tax reasons I can't really remember enough to describe here, I was advised by more than one accountant that unless the vehicle was wholly and solely used in connection with your company business it was strongly inadvisable to buy through your company.
|
" wholly and solely used in connection with your company business"
Which HMRC would never believe anyway, particularly in a one-man-band business.
Almost always, best tax approach is to own the car yourself and charge the company for your miles.

That’s exactly what her accountant has told her.
So where is best place to look for lease deals?
|
www.hotukdeals.com is a good starting point.
