 Shell Fuelsave Diesel-Up to 7% Bio:Problems??? - mattbod
Posted this on HJ too but VAG say their Diesels are okay up to 5% BIO blend but Shell claim to put up to 7% in this stuff apparently: Should I stop using it? Engine in my car is a VAG 130 PD.

Don't buy Shell if you are concerned.

Gosh I am acutely aware that these things are often subjective and highly subject to selective perception but I can only report what I believe to be the facts.

I am perhaps over sensitive to how my cars feel. I've spent an unreasonable amount of time driving both of them and believe rightly or wrongly that I can tell from the sound and general feel of them how they are that day.

Some days I can get through nearly a whole tank of diesel and so running an amateur and admittedly purely subjective back to back comparison on fuels is fairly easy to do.

With both cars, I've tried all manner of diesel fuels from main brands, through supermarket ones and the allegedly super fuel such as BP Ultimate and Shell's V Power equivalent.

With the Ford, it definitely doesn't like Morrisons cooking diesel. It runs rougher and lacks power. It really likes the super fuels and gets measureably better economy and runs smoother.

With the Nissan, it doesn't seem to care much what it's given to drink with the notable exception of fuels with a higher bio content.

There is a pump at ( may I borrow this ) "Dr Moreau's Island" which claims 7% bio diesel. The Mondeo dislkes it and so does the Nissan. They both run rough on the stuff and I'm convinced I can feel an odd hesitance under power in both cars when they've been given this particular brew to sup. It doesn't noticeably affect fuel economy in the Qashqai but it really is measureably worse in the Mondeo.

Make of that anything you will. Like I say, just my amateur findings.

I thought all UK diesel was "Up to 7% bio" these days. The fuel only comes from a few refineries, each of which supply large areas.

Wouldn't know ON, maybe so, but my cars don't like the Morrisons stuff. Mind you, I don't like their sausage rolls either so maybe I'm biased.

You and your car must be allergic to their additive package. :-)

Morrisons are very close to me- but I generally buy up in the Peak District where Esso is 3p a litre cheaper. I'm allergic to the M customers who seem to be unusually obstructive all round, both driving and on foot.

We have a Morrisons petrol station within 0.5miles of a Shell station in the Potteries. Both have the same price.

And people buy Morrisons fuel..

Just goes to prove you can fool some of the people all of the time.

Me too, ON, I thought it went up a year or two back...

I used to live next door to a morrisons and i used them a couple of times for diesel, it foamed up like crazy going in the tank.

Later found out (after i saw sense and stopped buying diseasal cars :-P ) they weren't adding the anti-foaming additive others do.

More recently i found out some of their stores carry 30% biodiesel, either currently, or at some point in the past.

thanks for the statement Craig. I must say the engine doesn't seem bothered using this new Shell stuff and the economy has actually improved slightly.
