Gosh I am acutely aware that these things are often subjective and highly subject to selective perception but I can only report what I believe to be the facts.
I am perhaps over sensitive to how my cars feel. I've spent an unreasonable amount of time driving both of them and believe rightly or wrongly that I can tell from the sound and general feel of them how they are that day.
Some days I can get through nearly a whole tank of diesel and so running an amateur and admittedly purely subjective back to back comparison on fuels is fairly easy to do.
With both cars, I've tried all manner of diesel fuels from main brands, through supermarket ones and the allegedly super fuel such as BP Ultimate and Shell's V Power equivalent.
With the Ford, it definitely doesn't like Morrisons cooking diesel. It runs rougher and lacks power. It really likes the super fuels and gets measureably better economy and runs smoother.
With the Nissan, it doesn't seem to care much what it's given to drink with the notable exception of fuels with a higher bio content.
There is a pump at ( may I borrow this ) "Dr Moreau's Island" which claims 7% bio diesel. The Mondeo dislkes it and so does the Nissan. They both run rough on the stuff and I'm convinced I can feel an odd hesitance under power in both cars when they've been given this particular brew to sup. It doesn't noticeably affect fuel economy in the Qashqai but it really is measureably worse in the Mondeo.
Make of that anything you will. Like I say, just my amateur findings.
