Has anybody any experience of same regarding performance and reliability?

Entirely depends on application (i.e. the car) as there are two types, and year of manufacture. Avoid the early ones.

No personal experience to report but, whilst researching the viability of a Ford B-max, I noted a large number of negatives on the HJ car-by-car review for Powershifts on B-maxes.

Zero do you know of a source of independent data regarding years/vehicles etc?

Nah merely that which can be found with google. Sufficient noise around to make one wary of early ones. you need to research yourself. And you need to drive one, its an automated manual, not a regular auto so you need to check if you like it.

I barred nicole from having a powershift auto fiesta, going instead for an older TC type. People always try and avoid Volvos with PS boxes.

I think previous shape Mazda MX-5s also used the moniker Powershift for their autoboxes, although they were 6-spd TC autos - presumably this was peculiar to Mazda and not another Ford-based autobox.

As I recall HJ in the DT generally favoured the Ford Powershift over the VAG DSG box.

We recently sold our powershift boxed S-Max after 7 years and 70,000 miles of trouble free miles. This was one of the earliest incarnations of this box. When i asked for a fluid change earlier in its time with us our local Ford garage's response was "we don't know how to do that"(!).

We also have a Transporter with DSG box which I always preferred - less hesitancy than with the Ford.

Like VAG Ford use a dry and wet type. Like VAG the dry type when introduced wasn't up to the mark, a 2015 update has seemingly resolved that, Like VAG there were electronic issues with both types when introduced. Like VAG class actions in various countries were started by consumer groups to recover monies form the maker.

They are probably OK reliability wise if you buy one new now, like VAG its just a matter of how well you like, or dislike the characteristics of the box.

The diseasel Volvo V60 I test drove earlier in the year had a Powershift box. I can't honestly say I could tell it apart from any other automatic TBH, although I recall it rolled back when in drive and stationary on an incline. Maybe it had hill-hold or somesuch, I would have checked that out of course before parting with pound notes, but went for the CR-V in the end. I believe the box in the Vulva was a, um, wet type.

I drove a Ford Focus Powershift in Iceland. On normal roads it was fine. But on gravel roads it was bit difficult to drive. There were few situations where I would have expected the car to slow down on gravels but it actually sped up (ECU might have lowered the gear rather than holding up).

Now that could be nothing to do with the car and other car might have behaved in same way.

I have also driven my own Kia Ceed DCT in gravel roads (for a shorter distance in UK) and it behaved better (again could be because I was more familiar with my own car).

This is just my observation and not a scientific test by any means.

Affirmative, whether selecting forward or reverse.
