Hmmmm. The long boat is acting up.
Yesterday "Low Voltage" came up, on turning on. Started sprightly enough, seemed ok. Again this morning "Low Voltage" but seems to have plenty of ooommphh in the starter motor.
Diagnosis time. OBD reports 12.1v ignition on, 14.7v charging. Multimeter on battery posts (and main fusebox +bus/body -earthing point), reports 13.1v powered down, 12.8 ignition on, 15.3v charging.
Hmmm says I, top up battery. Nope sealed, can't get panels off. So its now on charge, but its probably going to need a new 80ah battery. (Volvo branded made in Germany so probably Bosch)

When I last replaced the battery on our car, I looked online at Euro Car Parts. Based on those prices I was going to get a cheaper make. Since I wanted it now and not delivered tomorrow I went to the one nearby (10 minute drive). Halfords is closer but I knew it would be more.
Totally different prices in store. I could get a battery for less than online. They also sold it at trade price without asking. Can't remember if it was Exide but I got a better battery than the cheapest they had online. It was probably the Lion that was cheapest online.
Can't remember exact figures but today the comparison is £72.99 vs £57.99. Back then I got the £72.99 battery for £50.34.

No I hadn't, so I just did.
Typed in my Reg number, and they came up with a Varta 70AH (10 AH less than the one in the car) at 128 quid plus 7.99 delivery.

Weird. Look up the ones you have quotes for? Were the ones in the link the wrong battery? XC70s seem to have 80 or 110-120Ah ones according to version.
I have bought three batteries from them in the last couple of years, based on price and availability.

Battery Knackered. Battery charger claims it was fully charged in 3.5 hours. Straight off charger it was 13.4v, two minutes of ignition on and it was 12.2, low voltage warning pinged on, and 12.2 volts is where it has stabilised at.

Right sized battery linked to, wrong A/H quoted in specs.

Bosch or Exide for me.Just make sure it has the correct aH and CCA rating.No harm in going bigger capacity ,not lower.

Are you sure that the low voltage warning is not referring to the key fob battery?

Interesting to see that OBD reports a voltage 0.7V lower than at the Battery terminals.
Interesting because I have seen exactly the same voltage drop on my 2 Citroens. I cannot believe it is voltage drop in the wires leading to the connector surely ? - perhaps there is a built in voltage regulator (or possibly a Silicon diode) in the ELM (or OBD connector) and the voltage is measured after that point?

I wonder how old the battery in Zero's Volvo is. If it's over 3 or 4 years old then I'd be replacing it. It might be playing up and reporting an error. Next week it just might let him down and leave him stranded somewhere.
But we already know he's getting a new one. Might have done so already.

Battery bought Bosch S4 80ah, 86 quid Costco.
Low volts measured through the OBD was from the charging module, not the voltage at the OBD port.
Battery is 5 years old.

Yeah the neglected battery on the Lancer is only 10 years old and still going strong.

And he'll know this because the voltage that was measured as too low is now okay. And he's got peace of mind for the next 5 months until he gets the BMW 5-series estate. And when he sells the XC70 the new buyer will be pleased it's got a new battery and not a 5 year old one.

Batteries normally give you a warning, then collapse dead. The death would leave me stranded with a hot dog on board.
Had the the 5 series estate for 7 hours today, A 520dM sport touring, The dog cage fits, just with 5mm spare, unlike the V90 where it wont go anywhere near fitting, Unless I get a test of the new XF sportbrake by the end of July, and its a fantastic car, I shall be ordering a 5 series Touring.

My thoughts too. Not worth the risk for £80. It might last another few months.. Or go in days/weeks. But then it will let you down when inconvenient.

With the new battery installed, the voltage running (as reported by the voltage regulator via the ODB port) is now much more stable. It was jumping all over the place from 11.9 to 14.7 volts. Its now very steady, wacking in 14.2 volts after a charge and slowly reducing to 12.8.
