 Honda Jazz/Fit - Honda Jazz 1.4 i-VTEC Elegance Dec. 2008 - Focal Point
My son has just e-mailed me about this car, a model I’m not at all familiar with. He and girlfriend (both clueless about cars) are due to look at a second-hand example very soon.

Apart from the usual stuff like service history, what should they watch out for?

All the Jazz models are pretty bullet proof, as always condition is everything. This website will have a forum for the model.

As it's VTEC it must be one of the first mk2 models. We have two of them in the family, 2009 and 2014.

I think they carried over a couple of issues from mk1 but (touching wood!) they don't seem such regular occurances. They are noisy gearbox bearing and water getting into the spare wheel well from the roof seams.

I guess it's not a UK car (I don't recognise "Elegance") so don't know the spare wheel situation in other markets but they didn't have one as standard here. Some people regard that as an issue.

The ishift autos in the early part of the mk2 production are not well regarded. Honda switched back to CVT in 2011.

Some engines (not sure which) have eight spark plugs. The rear four are difficult to get at and can be neglected.

That's the previous model iDSI engine.

The new one does still have the awkward (therefore expensive) valve clearance adjustment set-up - every 62.5K miles. The general consensus is they never need adjusting though.

Is looks a little scarred!

I think used car prices are higher elsewhere in Europe than in UK, so perhaps that one is quite cheap?
