I need 4 new tyres for the Colt. Which online retailer has anybody had any experience of/with. I'll get them fitted myself.I just want the rubber. Thanks.

I would like to add that we have Toyo Proxes on at the mo on the front with Kuhmo esta's on the rear. The thing handles very well on that combination.

I plan to fit 4 Toyo's, however trawling the net it seems that the current pair are summer tyres, but to be honest they've handled everything wet rural Devon can throw at us. Should I stick with what has worked thus far or should I go for all seasons? Here we go again!!! 0:-)

I just bought a couple of tyres and after trawling the net went to some local suppliers knowing what sort of prices are available. I was able to get within a few quid and by getting a local place to supply and fit them I've got far simpler redress if there's any problems.

I got a brand new pair off ebay at a fraction of the price most outlets were asking! - worth a look!

That is very brave! Perhaps I have been watching too much "Fake Britain" on the BBC which suggests almost everything on EBAY has a fake equivalent?

I agree there must be some fake stuff out there.
I have recently found several branded items very heavily discounted.
Audi accessories from various Audi main dealers.( Yes I know they were originally over priced )
I can only guess that they were the equivalent of the traditional high street sales.
I e. stock clearance of older items that are less likely to sell, do not fit current models etc and thus put some cash in the bank.

Try www.camskill.co.uk , they're pretty good at supplying tyres that you're going to get fitted elsewhere.

Try Asda tyres online, good prices including fitting by a local garage/tyre centre.

Edit: My friendly local indy, who sells tyres directly, is more than happy if customers go through Asda Tyres and select him to fit via the Asda Tyres website as he makes some money and the customet gets a good deal.

I've seen comments about tyres being old coming from Asda, and their website says this:

"All Asda Tyres are new. Tyres are classed as "brand new" if correctly stored for upto 3 years and "new" for upto 5 years. This is following BRV (German National Association for the tyre and vulcaniser trade). Asda Tyres are generally less than 18 months old. "

There is a marking on the sidewall which identifies the age of a tyre. Can someone remind what form it is in?

4 digits, week and year so "2614" is manufactured in week 26 in 2014, "4816" is week 48 in 2016.

I found some apparent bargains there when I was looking. One pair had a DOT code indicating they were nearly ten years old - advertised as new!

I have ordered tyres from Asda Tyres and have them fitted by out local indy, no problems, tyres fitted to our 120i in Jan 16 (Goodyear runflats) are dated "3315", so week 33 in 2015 so were 4 - 5 months old.

If you buy tyres separately don't go to Kwik Fit. Well not one of my local ones anyway. Recently took a set of rims and tyres and asked if they could remove the tyres and fit them onto a set of bare rims. The staff member looked somewhat confused and I had to try and explain in simpler terms and that they were in the boot of my car. Penny eventually dropped and he informed me that they don't fit customers own tyres on rims only tyres supplied by themselves.
Asked him if they repaired punctures. "Yes'", he replied. "Isn't that removing and refitting customer tyres then?" and left.

Nothing much to add but August 2015 I had 4 supplied by Black Circles and fitted by a local company through BC's website. £50 each fitted for my modest 15" wheels.

40k miles later they are still on and the same replacement set are planned later this year, seem to have worn evenly.

Kumho Ecowing ES01 KH27 £51.28 but £61 now

The last twice I was looking for specific tyres I found no one was consistently cheaper than the rest. The first time Halfords were nearly as cheap as online suppliers for a pair of Continentals and a month or so back I found Blackcircles were best for Michelin Crossclimates. Maybe because Michelin own BC now (I think). These were fitted prices.
Overall prices vary a surprising amount between suppliers and what one sells cheap another has dearer and vice verse. Go back a few weeks later and it might have flipped around. You've just got to narrow your choice of tyre and Google for the best deal on the day.

A bit like soap powder / coffee / toilet rolls etc etc

Gone are the days when the "High Street Price" for tyres was set by the 2/3 big chains in your area - internet has seen them cut their prices EXCEPT when " Joe Public just wanders in & asks for tyres (having done no research) or you have a unrepairable puncture on the motorway / Bank Holiday & they are the only ones open.

A son's car needs to front tyres, Yokahamas to keep all 4 the same, £120+ from Kwikfit, Black Circles £87 fitted locally.

Even Costco is no longer the cheapest for Michelins - 20 years ago nobody could get near them.

They seem to have gone right off. Something must have happened as they only sold Michelin, but now several other brands have crept in. The big discount offers have stopped.

On cheaper tyres the fitting charge makes a bigger difference - they used to only chage £3, now it's £8.

I used BC to fit 4x Michelin Cross Climates 205/16" rims @£186 last June. Local fitter in Barlick was very good.

Barlick LL! Were you thirsty?

The town shown on maps as Barnoldswick I suspect, given it's proximity to Settle:)
