512 Jobs to go as Insurance Broking falls to Power of Direct Insuring via Comparison Websites

Perhaps they just weren't very good.
I suspect the brand was a handicap.

Kwik Fit have our building & contents this year. Best quote by a long way. Will probably go back to Halifax (our bank) next year as they are offering interest free drip and £50 cashback on combined policies.
I did that Halifax cashback deal in 2015, but of course renewal was silly money, hence KF.

I thought the same, and I'm surprised the tyre outfits still keep going. Its a tarnished brand for me.

their office is about 4 miles from my house and I never even thought of trying them for a motor quote at my renewal last month!
Assume from OP that they were not appearing on the comparison sites?? So I would have went direct to them if I wanted a quote?
Feel quite guilty now that I havent supported a local employer!

And me. I last used them over twenty years ago. I had an argument in one of their Branches and swore I would never give them a penny of my money ever again.

Same as me - stitched me up when I was young and naive and have never set foot since

Me too, they tried to rip off my daughter, fortunately she phoned me for advice. None of my family will use them. There is an old school tyre fitter nearby that we use, recommended years ago by a farmer friend, if they can fix agricultural and commercial vehicle tyres our cars are no problem.

Opinion on Kwik Fit same as most wouldn't use them. I do think the insurance business (and others) is being seriously skewed by comparison sites. While people here are aware of the ownership and thus the bias of such sites I think a fair number of people out there will consider their research complete when they have been on one or two comparison sites for insurance and other things. If your organisation is in any way independent and thus not on such sites you are at a serious disadvantage.

KwikFit is a franchise. Outlets are only as good as the staff employed - some are excellent and some employees seem to lack the ability and skill requirements expected.
|
I *think* that all UK Kwik Fit branches are company owned; it's only outside the U.K that they run a franchise model IIRC.

That was my impression too. It began before franchising was a mainstream business model and has expanded by buying out other chains.
Doesn't mean they don't see franchising as a future UK strategy though.

K wik-Fit are wholly owned outlets, in the UK.
Tom Farmer started in Edinburgh & bought up outlets throughout the UK as Rubber companies "sold off" outlets they owned. Often he bought lumps of 100 t0 200 outlets, kept 2/3rds and sold off 1/3 in areas where he had sites already. Often recouping much of the cash he had spent.
Kwik-fit has been bought & sold many times over the last 40 years. Their most famous parent was Ford.
Farmer has nothing to do with Kwikfit - he has his new company - Farmers which has a franchise model.
Kwikfit Insurance Broking WAS a Kwikfit company BUT was sold off - Aegus own it nowadays (they used to be called Fortis IIRC)

Well whoever owns them is irrelevant to me. They won't be seeing any car of mine ever again.
