As a follow on from the amateur traffic enforcer thread, how about a survey of who has passed what.
I know this will not be a gauge of driving standards (there are good and bad drivers of all types of vehicle).
We know there are HGV and bus drivers here, but who holds a racing licence for example, and who is enough of a petrol head to undertake advanced training? And what training do the police traffic drivers do?

Apart from a day's "defensive driving" course which was mandatory for my old company's insurance, I haven't done any further training. It is on my "to do" list for the bike though.

Passed second time, 1st time i failed by hesitating at a roundabout, then i took the wrong turn off - oops
Was thinking about doing a Advanced Drivers Test with IAM, however im not sure that I would be a good standard

Nothing to worry about, just think of it as learning a few hints and tricks for safer driving. If you can pass a driving test you can learn some advanced techniques, you can already drive so you have cracked the difficult bit.

Its a fallback plan if I get bored or the money gets tight. I have enough stashed away to get a late e-class if i fancy collar and tie work.

Presumably your badge applies to the borough in which you live.
Hackney Carriage suggests you can ply for hire?
I'm sure there's money to be made, but I think taxi work can drag you in, and before you know it, you'll be working harder than before you retired.

Havent got the badge, just passed the Driving test, which is a pre req for the badge. To get the badge you need to have a CRB check and pay 200 quid for the badge (private hire) or take a borough test (local info stuff) for the Ply for hire badge.
If you go for ply for hire, (depending on the borough) you need to have an approved vehicle (disabled access which now means a eurocab type vehicle)
DOnt fancy ply for hire, It would be collar and tie if anything.

1964 - car test
46 years later the Test of Time - 16 yrs @ 10K -12K per yr and 30 yrs @ 25K-30K per yr
Blameworthy accidents paid myself - scrapes and scratches mainly - claims on my / company car insurance - none other than windscreens x 4. Claims on 3rd parties - 4 for mostly minor scrape, bumpers etc

Car licence (B1?) passed October 2008 - first time, four minors - mainly for messing about the turn in the road making it into a seven point turn.

Got them all between Bike in '63 to Police class 1 Car / Bike in early 70s.
Grabbed HGV 1 on the way, in '72...Had a couple of artics in the force, flatbed for moving barriers and a horsebox.
Lost HGV when I got diabetes but didn't matter.
Don't do a lot of fast pursuit nowadays but try and keep the roadcraft skills up.

Is that a recent ruling then Ed, only I had a 30' x 12' caravan transported from Norfolk to Sussex in the mid 90's
and the driver was a diabetic.

It covers you for all military vehicles, it is a proof of insurance more than anything else, you still require the civil licence for whatever you are driving.

British Cycling has it's own group of qualified cycle race escorts, started nine years ago because of the massive cost of hiring police motorcyclists for the duration of a road race. I rode as an escort in a couple of races just before the escort group was formed, and went through the first part of the training which was an assessed ride which I got through. However, a move from Essex to Wales later that year made continuing with the course impractical, so I let it go.
In some parts of the country (Essex being one) there is an experiment taking place which gives the riders "Lollipop Powers" to stop and hold traffic at a junction. At present only a police officer can do that and the race escorts are a glorified early warning of an approaching peloton.

Never got that far, Humpy....Got cashiered from the Cubs on the second day of attendance for fighting with another Cub.
I think I had my woggle ceremonially burnt in disgrace !
I wouldn't mind, but I could see the Cub Hut from my bedroom window and used to watch them all having fun, with my nose pressed up against the glass.....an outcast !

Local authority suitability test 2008. I was criticised for stopping too close to the vehicle in front (if they broke down, I'd have to reverse to get round them) and he suspected I usually drove with only one hand on the wheel - very perceptive!

Car in 1987, bike in '98. Class 1 since 95 and still current as of a recent assessment. I'd be interested in how many accidents contributors have been involved in. I went agricultural on the bike soon after passing the test but stayed upright, followed the tractor line and came out with nothing more than some wheat attached. Much to the amusement of my friends. Nothing other than that, four wheels or two.

I'd always ridden under 250cc stuff til I bought a Honda 550/4,
So I thought I'd better get one of these blimmin licence thingies,
So I puts in fer me test. like, knowing full well I'd walk it with no probs,
I failed on not looking behind when doing a right turn (that's wot blimmin mirrors are for, innit)
I was soooooooo annoyed, I never bothered with retaking the test.

I seem to recall an advert for it on the telly, which ending with a smug-looking lad being asked, "Got a certifikat or summin'".
That same kid probably grew up to own a fine selection of cardigans - including that nice burgundy one with the leather buttons....

Interesting is how difficult everything has become, my wife is going through the bike test, hugely complex.
Many younger drivers don't realise that they're no longer licensed to tow a trailer or drive larger vans without doing tests for them....

Cycling proficiency test - aged around 7-8 years
Tractor driving test - aged 16 years
Car driving test - aged 17 years
Rough terrain materials handling vehicle/fork lift truck - aged 18 years.
All passed first time. Tractor test was interesting, as the examiner comes out to the village to undertake the test, rather than you driving into town. You're not allowed to drive the tracotr on the road (accompanied or otherwise) on a provisional licence, so your first experience on the road is driving from the farm to the village green, to meet the examiner.
He then watchs from the road side, as you drive round the village, reverse round a corner, do a three-point turn etc. My favourite bit was the emergency stop, from a heady 17 mph! The examiner steps into the road, raises his hand and you have to stop, without mowing him down! He then asks asked some Highway Code questions (ironically, including some re motorway driving!) and then he tells you whether or not you've passed. Regardless of whether or not you have passed, you're still allowed to drive the tractor back to the farm unaccompanied.
I'm going back a few years now and I think the licences may have changed, but you could pass the test on a small 'Old Grey Fergie' in the morning and quite legitimately pilot 200hp of '40 kph' geared tractor and four wheeled 10 metre bale trailer in the afternoon! Happy days.
Not sure how true it is, but I heard of one examiner turning driving past a field, a few minutes early to carry out a tractor driving test. The candidate was driving a tractor in the field at the time and on seeing the examiner, pulled up on the edge of the field to speak with him. The examiner commented that the candidate could clearly drive a tractor, didn't bother with the test and handed over a 'pass' certificate before heading home early!!

Car - 29 January 1990 at 2.45pm, 1st time, after 7 lessons and a lot of practice with me dad.
No theory test back then, no parking in a space either. Only manoeuvres were reverse around a corner, turn in the road and emergency stop. Car licence allows me to tow big trailers and to drive 7.5 tonne lorries - I have previously earned a living doing both.
Bedford Borough Private Hire Drivers knowledge test - 29 May 1996.
No driving assessment required then, although there is now for new entrants, along with a spoken English language assessment.
Counterbalance forklift truck - refresher course taken in September 2008.
Been driving forklifts since the early 90s but it was only at my last job that anyone thought it necessary for the fork truck drivers to be licensed.
And I'm two donations short of my NBS silver badge :)
