What are peoples opinions of the MG6? They are catching my interest after seeing a few lately.
Has anyone on here been lucky enough to drive one?

The editorial in Auto Express last week claimed that the likes of KIA, Hyundai, and Skoda have moved up market because the Chinese manufacturers are expected to move into the UK during the next two years. It also claims that the Chinese manufacturers have improved at a rapid rate. MG will be introducing a SUV badged as a GS. Geely will be introducing a Qashqai sized SUV which will be on a Volvo developed platform. The editor who has seen this car says it is full of tech and as well built as a Kia. Maybe the Chinese are going to do what the Japanese did a few decades ago.

Thanks for that info ON. I have a few doubts right now, I would be looking at current plate cars in a couple of years hopefully they have sorted initial criticisms and early issues. I guess its a market to be keeping an eye on and maybe a few more manufacturers will join the UK in the near future.

Were I in the market for a manual, petrol engined car, I'd have a look. Were anything untoward to happen to my SAAB, a manual petrol car would probably give me similar fuel consumption, so under those circs yes, I'd consider the MG6, seeing how far they've depreciated from new.
I can't see how they'd be significantly worse than anything else at the price point, second hand.
And I too like their looks. Handsome car.
There are some diesels around now too but I don't like the idea of modern diesel manuals in general (DMFs and DPFs all that schemozzle).

Well, over the last 3 years I've seen half a dozen MG6s I reckon. Looking at the hard data the number of them licensed (not necessarily sold for real money to real punters) is static at around 2000 total:-

Well maybe give it a decade and they might get somewhere, but given that the UK car market already has multiple brand choices at every cost vs. perceived quality point from Dacia vs. Ssangyong to Bentley vs. Rolls Royce I'm not holding my breath.

I reckon they could smash it with that SUV if they get it right. By which I mean they can't rely on an inefficient (by today's standards) old-style 1.8 petrol engine with poor MPGs and CO2s. By the time they launched the MG6 diesel, the model was dead in the water.
Petrols are making a comeback, but it's going to need to match the emissions of things like SquashCows if it's going to sell/lease etc. If it does, at a lower price, they may well finally have a winner on their hands. They will need to market it properly as well, get some soap/reality stars photographed in them (white ones), then watch the young, female Evoque-wannabe drivers flock to the MG dealer.

After the UKIP market, are they?

Never miss an opportunity to crack the same gag, do ya? I'm not sure whether to be annoyed or impressed.
:-S

Going by the frownies/thumbs, I think some readers may have misread my message. It was not in relation to the concept of UKIP maybe being a bit racist, but in relation to Will's habit of always managing to sniff out a semantic ambiguity in a sentence.
Semantic Ambiguity. Good name for a jazz band, that.
Still like the idea of an MG6.

I agree, it would be a long time before I would consider a Chinese car. They seem to have learnt a lot from manufacturing Western companies cars in China though, I saw Chinese imports into Australia about five years ago, they made Dacia look good. I saw a few Great Wall pickups in urban areas, I suspect the locals would rather trust a Toyota Hilux in remote areas. :-)

This week's AE has just hit my doormat, there is an article about buying an MG6. The owners comments range from "fantastic handling" and "stylish with performance" to "It spends more time at the dealer than on my drive".

>> "It spends
>> more time at the dealer than on my drive".
Sounds right up my alley. Although I'd have to find a 'specialist'.
;-)

Trumpchi?

More the result of a dodgy kebab from a van just outside Henley-on-Thames, really. Although Trumpchi qualifies there too.

Here's a car which is suitable for all you EU lovers: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoM7kny7OvM

>>Kizashi
Get tae! Still going strong (albeit only just passed the 21k mile mark)

Nearly run in then. :-)

Engine-wise almost certainly.
CVT gearbox still works perfectly well and reliability appears decent from forums, but in my mind still has similar 'will it die and cost a bomb to fix'-cachet as DSG/DMF/DPF bits on other cars...
