When I was looking for a Yaris a couple of years ago, they had dozens.
I had a choice of over thirty manual, petrol 1.3. They've now got one.
Daughter's now looking for something and seems to have set her mind on a Mazda 3. They've got three!

Could it be that the Yaris just hasn't been as popular a new choice in recent years? I don't know that to be the case, but it could just be that other cars have been selling better and there are therefore by default fewer coming on to the used market?
Or something.

I'd guess the glut of Yarises followed a time when Toyota had injected a large quantity into the rental market, perhaps to achieve a short-term market share target. (Such things really matter to commercial directors and the like, and even impress some people here.) Those cars then found their way into the used market through the volume outlets like Motorpoint and Car Giant.
Once Toyota had achieved its aim, it could turn off the bargain deals to the rental companies, so the used supply dried up.
They do have 55 Vauxhall Corsas, 223 Ford Fiestas and 235 Nissan Jukes, so you can see who's been dumping stock recently.

Well it should be as they keep telling us that we have an ageing population ! :-)
Seriously though according to the reviews apart from being reliable it doesn't have much going for it being distinctly average in most aspects (same with the Jazz).

The ancient Britons who buy Yarises privately don't sell them on to Motorpoint eight months later.

Their executors may do though after they have died !

Where I live,
Nice Lane
Nice Estate
Nicetown
Niceshire
There are no Yari.
The men ( who all work in IT ) all drive Audis, BMWs, Range Rovers or Mercs, their wives all drive Qashqais, Jukes or Minis ( except the especially fertile ones who have Zafiras or an S Max )
The retired have Clios and the teenagers have Ups, Polos or Swifts.
No one has anything Korean and Yari are unheard of.
The petrol mowers haven't started quite yet this morning but it's only a matter of time.
;-)

The gardeners up north work on Sundays? I suppose the hourly rates are so low that they have to work 7/7?

Are you saying that you don't have a fellow with a large petrol mower to look after your lawn? Usually Monday to Friday, and never, never on a Sunday morning.

Is it Sunday?
Might have to walk over the tops with Lakeland for a late lunch at Austwick then
And it's not raining

Motorpoint stocks whatever is in surplus supply at the time- just look at the number of delivery mileage golfs in stock.....
A colleague has a relative who works for them in sales. Tells me business is booming and they are selling cars hand over fist - hes earning significantly more commission now than 12 months ago
|

Normal Motorpoint is ex-day rental + early Motability returns (A son's MIL bought a 4 mth old / 240 miles ex Motability car a year ago)
If Toyota does not sell Yarii to Europcar etc there will be few for sale 6-9 months later.
I saw that Motorpoint has 100+ Jeeps and many weeks later there are still over 100 left.
Motorpoint stock of Honda, Toyota, Honda is less than 50 in total!
Hyundai, Ford, BMW, Audi, Nissan, Vauxhall, VW ....Hundreds of each

You're right, I thought they had stopped selling imports, but noticed that they had added a foot note stating *Savings against new UK list price **Imported vehicle, specification may differ from UK model
A quick google reveals a few recent stories of people buying these and finding quite a lot of UK spec missing, so the savings are not as good as they appear
|
I inquired about some of the new Golfs that they had at about £12,500 for a 1.2 petrol (and hoping that they had some diesels available).
They advise that they only come with a 2 year warranty and that they are imports but would not say from where (I am guessing Cyprus).
Are there likely to be warranty or resale issues with such an import?

I have bought 2 Cypriot Cars - Xtrail & CRV
I have not needed repairs on either cars so cannot tell about issues BUT a neighbour had problems with Focus - rolled up to the local Ford outlet - no issues. The neighbour with a Skoda, had like me no warranty issues, so cannot say how the local Skoda dealer would have handled it.
Under Euro legislation Manufacturers cannot discriminate in how customers with warranty work is done. They can however, have different warranty terms - Honda UK is 3 yrs/90K, Cypriot Warranty is 3 yrs 60K.
Selling in the short term, say up to 3 years, will get you a lower price - when the car is older the main factor in the value of your car are age, mileage & condition.
|
Think Toyota are selling their ex-rental returns via their dealers now - much in the same way that Ford, Vauxhall and PSA sell their ex-driving school cars (Ford - the AA drving school, PSA and fornerly Vauxhall - BSM) through their used car schemes.
For example recently some Toyota dealers had ex-Europcar Rav4's for sale.
|
>>For example recently some Toyota dealers had ex-Europcar Rav4's for sale
It happens from time to time - Manufacturer "sells" (at huge discount) to Hire car Company, with an agreed buy back price (less damage) when mileage is lower than say 12K.
The manufacturer then resells them eg Ford at lower prices than typical value for age & mileage or has a closed auction amongst franchised dealers for batches of cars after a refurb or in need of a refurb.
