Full marks to Hertz and DVLA - sherlock47
On presenting my print out of the DVLA access code details to the Hertz desk at Beziers Airport, I was told that he only wanted my Driving licence. I produced the the plastic folder with the 16 pieces of pink paper jigsaw,(that results from 28 years of wallet wear and tear), and he carefully reassembled on the desk. All details were present and correct, with one exception - the piece of paper 6mmx6mm containing the expiry year was missing. he accepted the verbal assurance that expiry was my 70 th birthday (as shown in my passport) and completed the paper work accordingly. (It was only afterwards that I noticed that the expiry date is actually shown on the DVLA acces code paperwork).

Deciding that my next hiring experience may not be so accommodating I decided to spend the £20 on a replacement plastic photocard. and completed the online renewal, authorising the use of my E passport details. Email back indicating a 2 week turnaround. Back in the UK 4 days later to find new licence wating for me.

So maybe something good to be said for Government IT projects. Full marks DVLA.

I find public servants pretty efficient in general when they're not on strike or on long term sick with 'stress' ( must be really stressful all that filing ) or retiring shortly after their 30th birthday on index linked pensions...

Sorry, bit of keyboard Tourette's there !

;-)

Passport office were very quick last time I used them too.

Likewise, I used the same day service. I think it was all done in about five hours.

After filing my online tax return ( last minute as usual) I received my £47.50 refund within a matter of days.

I am experiencing mixed DVLA performance at present. We transferred a car between family members a couple of weeks ago. The "buyer" SORNd it by post ( the only option if you are not the V5 holder) and the seller also submitted the selling details by post. The seller had their written confirmation and tax refund within 10 days. We got the new V5 at the same time. However the SORN is still not enacted either on the govt website, let alone in terms of paperwork. In fact the website shows it as untaxed and the tax being due from the sale date. We want to start running the car next week and I understand we can renew the tax online without the SORN papers. We shall see.........
