A friend of mine flew into Alicante last Saturday... Paid £38 online to AutoEurope ( inter Rent) and was given the keys to a spanking new 5 door Punto. 18 days. In addition paid £39 for 12 months CDW on a UK website. We have driven up to visit friends who are over wintering in Moraira and plan to spend a week with them.
I think that's the cheapest 18 day car hire I have ever heard of. I accept its low season here, but all the same....

Sounds like a bargain. I guess if you live there then you may as well hire rather than buy if you can get those prices

I suspect it is like cheap train tickets, hotels and airlines, when things are quiet they give away services as any income is better than none. I know the hotels in Spain if open are stupidly cheap at this time of year.

No cheap hotels in Valencia tonight! I have tried bidding three times on Priceline for 2/3/4 * hotels in the centre and my bids have been declined every time! Nothing cheap on the usual agencies, so we drove to an Ibis on the outskirts & taxi in. €168 for the 4 of us including all you can eat breakfast, which we are more than happy with.
Lovely city by the way... Fabulous market, long 3 course boozy lunch in the sun then an open top bus with commentary. Different route tomorrow. Only a 75 minute drive from Moraira.
Just need to find somewhere to dine tonight....
